Sailor Moon Gets Ready for the Festive Season with New Official Luna Christmas Sweater
Image by James RichardsonSailor Moon’s Luna is getting her own new official Christmas sweater, with the magical cat surrounded by crescent moons across a dark gray and black design created for the holiday season.
The new festive sweater places a large image of Usagi Tsukino’s feline companion across the front, surrounded by a tiered design that extends around the rest of the sweater.
Luna has been part of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon since the beginning of Naoko Takeuchi’s story, acting as Usagi’s advisor after awakening her powers and introducing her to the wider mission of the Sailor Guardians.
Her black fur and golden crescent moon marking provide the basis for the sweater’s restrained color palette, which combines dark gray, black, gold and white throughout the design.
Across the upper and lower sections, repeated artwork shows Luna jumping across a golden crescent moon against a dark gray background, with traditional festive sweater patterns including zig-zags and horizontal lines providing additional separation between the top and bottom layers, which also feature faint black crescent moons.
A lighter gray section wraps around the center of the sweater and replaces the repeated Luna artwork with a series of black crescent moons, separating the upper and lower portions of the pattern.
The oversized Luna image on the front sits across these different layers, making her the main focus while allowing the surrounding moon pattern to continue across the body and sleeves.
The back takes a simpler approach, placing the Sailor Moon logo at its center in black with white outlining rather than its usual multicolored appearance, allowing it to match the darker styling used throughout the sweater.
The long-sleeved sweater uses a round neckline and ribbed cuffs, with its artwork applied using sublimation printing across a fabric blend of 70% polyester and 30% cotton.
Other recent Sailor Moon fashion and accessory releases have included new Hot Topic items inspired by the Cosmic Heart Compact and the five Inner Sailor Guardians.
Image by James RichardsonLuna herself has remained a regular part of recent official merchandise, including the newer Lunch Series sold through the Sailor Moon Store in Tokyo, which places the character across lunch boxes, storage containers, cups and other everyday items.
The officially licensed “Luna” Christmas Jumper is now available exclusively through EMP’s European online stores, priced from €43.99 (approximately $50 / £38).
