Pokémon’s new Tamagotchi-style virtual pet has officially launched and it’s selling out fast

Japanese toy manufacturer Takara Tomy has officially launched a new, highly interactive virtual pet device, the “Pokémon Poke-nade Monster Ball,” which merges the globally popular Pokémon franchise with the nurturing gameplay style of classic digital pets like the Tamagotchi.
Following its reveal earlier this year, general retail sales of the new Tamagotchi-style Pokémon virtual pet device began on the 10th of October, 2025.

The device is physically shaped like a traditional Poké Ball, offering fans a unique, tactile way to interact with their digital companions.

The name “Poke-nade” is a portmanteau of “Pokémon” and the Japanese verb “naderu,” which means to pet or stroke, highlighting the product’s core innovation.

Users can touch or pet the device to interact with the Pokémon displayed on the screen, a feature designed to create a deeper emotional bond.

The virtual Pokémon will respond with a variety of animations and reactions that are determined by the way the user strokes or taps the device, for example, a slow, gentle stroke will elicit a different response than a quick tap.

Beyond the unique touch-based interactions, users can develop their friendship with their Pokémon through a variety of activities, including playing with them, providing care, and engaging in Pokémon battles.

All of these daily interactions and memories are automatically recorded in a “diary” function, which players can view at any time to reflect on their journey with their virtual pet.

The virtual pet features a total of 157 different Pokémon for users to encounter and befriend, drawing from all regions of the Pokémon world.

Among these, seven are designated as special “Partner Pokémon,” which are fully voiced and possess more expressive, detailed animations to enhance the experience.

The featured Partner Pokémon are fan favorites Pikachu, Eevee, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, Lucario, and Sylveon.

The remaining 150 are categorized as “friend Pokémon” which offer the same gamplay but with less detailed animation and audio effects.

Adding to its accessibility, the device also features the ability to switch between Japanese and English language settings, which is a significant benefit for the large global Pokémon fanbase.

The “Pokémon Poke-nade Monster Ball” is priced at ¥7,480 (approx. $49 USD / £37 GBP), and orders can be placed via the Takara Tomy Mall online store.

The virtual pet is also available from select electronics goods retailers in both physical stores and online within Japan, as well as through a variety of third party retailers internationally.
