Pokémon Announces European Space Agency Collab for World Space Week 2026

Pokémon is preparing for an unexpected new collaboration this fall, with one of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises teaming up with Europe’s leading space organization for a special international event.

The European Space Agency (ESA) and The Pokémon Company International have officially announced a partnership celebrating World Space Week, with more details about the collaboration set to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Pokémon has inspired generations of fans since its debut in 1996, growing into a global phenomenon spanning video games, animation, the Pokémon Trading Card Game and countless real-world events that encourage exploration and discovery.

The newly announced collaboration appears to embrace those same themes by combining Pokémon’s sense of adventure with the excitement of space exploration and scientific discovery.

To mark the announcement, ESA unveiled a brand-new illustration of Pikachu wearing a space suit complete with a lightning bolt mission badge across its chest, immediately drawing enthusiastic reactions from fans across multiple languages on social media.

Many fans also noticed that the Pikachu featured in the artwork has a heart-shaped tail, identifying it as a female Pikachu and prompting further discussion as excitement surrounding the collaboration quickly spread online.

The first marks the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957, the world’s first artificial satellite, while the second recognizes the Space Treaty entering into force on October 10, 1967, establishing key principles for the peaceful exploration of outer space.

Although the full scope of the Pokémon collaboration has yet to be announced, ESA has teased fans by joking that they should start putting on their space helmets and have their Pokédex ready, suggesting more reveals are not far away.
