Nintendo reveals Zelda and Link actors for upcoming Legend of Zelda movie
Nintendo has officially unveiled the lead cast members for its live-action film adaptation of the “The Legend of Zelda” series.
Actors Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth have been cast in the roles of Princess Zelda and Link, respectively, bringing the iconic characters from Hyrule to the big screen.
“The Legend of Zelda” is one of Nintendo’s most beloved and influential video game franchises, first launched in 1986.
Created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, the action-adventure series is renowned for its expansive fantasy world of Hyrule, intricate puzzle-solving, memorable characters, and timeless tales of heroism and the eternal struggle between good and evil.
The live-action adaptation is being co-produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s Representative Director and Fellow, and Avi Arad.
Arad is a veteran Hollywood producer known for his extensive work on comic book adaptations and blockbuster films, including the “Spider-Man” series, “Venom,” and the recent “Uncharted” live-action movie.
The film will be directed by Wes Ball, known for his work on “The Maze Runner” film trilogy and the recent “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.”
Bo Bragason, who will portray Princess Zelda, is an English actress whose recent credits include playing the protagonist’s younger sister, Roxy Jackson, in the Disney+ original drama “Renegade Nell,” a British historical fantasy action-adventure series that premiered in 2024.
Bragason also contributed to the “Final Fantasy” universe, serving as the 3D scan model for a young Lunafreya Nox Fleuret in the 2016 computer-animated film “Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.”
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, set to play Link, is also a talented British actor.
In 2022, he lent his voice to the titular character in Disney’s live-action film adaptation of “Pinocchio.”
He is also a main cast member in Disney’s heartwarming adventure film “Flora & Ulysses,” released in 2021, where he played William Spiver.
Following the cast reveal, Shigeru Miyamoto shared a brief comment, expressing his anticipation:
“I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7th, 2027. Thank you for your patience.”
The film was originally expected to premiere on March 26th, 2027, but this was recently changed to May 7th, 2027, with Nintendo stating that the delay was necessary to ensure that the film is “as good as it can be”.
