New images offer best look yet at detailed new Gundam SEED DESTINY figure

Newly released images have offered a detailed look at an upcoming addition to the high-end “METAL ROBOT Spirits <SIDE MS>” series.

The “Legend Gundam” from “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY”, piloted by Rey Za Burrel in the anime, is set to be released later this year and these new images provide the most detailed look at the figure yet.

“Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY” is a direct sequel to the “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED” anime which aired from 2004 to 2005.

The series continues to explore the conflict between humanity’s genetically enhanced Coordinators and naturally born Naturals in the Cosmic Era (C.E.) timeline.

The Legend Gundam, designated ZGMF-X666S, emerges in the latter half of “SEED DESTINY” as a successor to the ZGMF-X13A Providence Gundam, which was prominently featured at the climax of the original “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.”

Both mobile suits are distinguished by their formidable DRAGOON System.

The DRAGOON (Disconnected Rapid Armament Group Overlook Operation Network) System is a signature weapon system in the Cosmic Era.

It consists of multiple detached beam weapon pods that can be independently controlled by a pilot with enhanced spatial awareness, allowing for devastating all-range attacks.

While the original DRAGOON System in the Providence Gundam required exceptional spatial recognition abilities from its pilot (like Rau Le Creuset), the Legend Gundam features an improved quantum communication system that makes it more accessible to a wider range of skilled pilots such as Rey Za Burrel.

The “METAL ROBOT Spirits” line by Bandai Spirits is renowned for its blend of high-quality plastic molding with a significant number die-cast metal components, offering collectors figures with superior durability and intricate detailing.

The “METAL ROBOT Spirits <SIDE MS> Legend Gundam” is designed to match the on-screen proportions and poses seen in “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY”.

The exterior boasts a sophisticated paint application that includes varied textures, giving the figure a sense of depth and realism beyond simple color replication.

A key highlight of this figure is the fully articulated Dragoon System deployment gimmick.

The Legend Gundam’s backpack unit is equipped with a total of ten individual assault beam mobile cannons: two larger GDU-X7 units and eight smaller GDU-X5 units.

The figure allows for the recreation of the mobile suit’s signature attacks during space battles through the inclusion of transparent effect parts that simulate beam discharges and ejection trails from each Dragoon unit.

The backpack itself features a clever folding gimmick, allowing it to collapse backwards when not deployed.

In addition to its powerful remote weapons, the Legend Gundam figure comes equipped with a other accessories including:

Beam Javelin:
- This melee weapon can be displayed as a single spear or connected to form a double-bladed weapon, mirroring its versatile use in the anime.
High-Energy Beam Rifle:
- The standard ranged weapon for the Legend Gundam, which can be securely mounted in the center of the folded Dragoon System on the figure’s back, a convenient storage option.
Beam Shield:
- A defensive energy shield that can be deployed from the mobile suit’s wrist-mounted generators, replicated with clear effect parts.

The figure also includes a specially designed display stand that allows the figure to be displayed alongside the deployed DRAGOON system.

The pre-order window for this new action figure will close on June 29th and it is available exclusively through Premium Bandai for 24,200 yen (approx. $167 USD / £122 GBP).

The Legend Gundam joins the “METAL ROBOT Spirits” line alongside several other recent additions from the wider Gundam franchise including the Red Gundam, NRX-044 Asshimar and GFreD.
