New HD-2D RPG Maker Project Unveiled

Gotcha Gotcha Games officially announced a new project for the RPG Maker series on March 26, 2026, that allows creators to develop games in an HD-2D style.
A teaser trailer released by the developer illustrates the evolution of the software from traditional 2D role-playing game creation to a modern aesthetic popularized by titles such as Octopath Traveler and the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.
The new project aims to provide tools that emulate the visual depth and high-definition sprite work seen in recent Square Enix hits and the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake.
In addition to the video reveal, Gotcha Gotcha Games launched dedicated social media accounts for the project in both English and Japanese to provide updates to the global community.
The teaser highlights the involvement of Kadokawa Corporation as the parent company and confirms that the software will continue the legacy of the long-running RPG Maker franchise.
