New Fukufuku No Chizu Anime Short Now Streaming

Fukushima Prefecture has officially launched its latest promotional initiative through the release of a new original anime short film titled Fukufuku no Chizu.

The animated project began streaming on the prefecture’s official YouTube channel on March 24, 2024, following a brief delay from its original March 5, 2024, release date to ensure higher production quality.

Directed by Sunao Katabuchi, known for his work on In This Corner of the World, the short film explores the scenic landscapes and local culture of Fukushima through the perspective of an international visitor.

The production features character designs by manga artist Fumiyo Kono and a musical score by kotringo, reuniting the core creative team behind Katabuchi’s previous award winning film.

This release marks the second major project from the Fukushima Map Friends Association, an organization established in December 2024 to promote the region via the Fukushima Map informational magazine.

The association’s inaugural project, Aka no Kioku, was released in March 2025 and has since garnered more than 3 million views on YouTube.

Animation for the new short was handled by studio CONTRAIL, based on a screenplay written by Katabuchi himself.

By leveraging high profile talent from the animation industry, Fukushima officials aim to connect with a global audience and showcase the ongoing vitality of the region.
