New Final Fantasy VII prequel novel will reveal more of Aerith, Tifa, and Cloud’s pasts

A new official prequel novel for the hit game Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been announced by Square Enix.
The new book is titled “FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH Dear Destiny” and it is being written by Kazushige Nojima, who is one of the main scenario writers for the Final Fantasy VII remake project.

This novel is a direct sequel to the previous book, “Final Fantasy VII Remake – Traces of Two Pasts.”

While the first novel focused on Aerith and Tifa, “Dear Destiny” will not only continue their stories but also add a new tale focusing on Cloud Strife during his time as a Shinra soldier.

The synopsis for the new novel reveals a little of what fans can expect:
- “After the Church’s Guardian Angel flew away, the reunion in the Sector 7 slums made the cogwheels of destiny start to turn.”
- “The two heroines’ big run-ups before the encounters and the start of the journey.”

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second part of the acclaimed Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, which has been a massive critical and commercial success, reimagining the classic 1997 RPG for a modern generation.

The previous novel, “Traces of Two Pasts,” was released in Japan in July 2021, with an English localization following in November 2022.
This new “Dear Destiny” novel has, so far, only been announced for a Japanese release.

This book is the latest in a series of new merchandise announcements for the Final Fantasy franchise.
These announcements have recently included a new high-end “PLAY ARTS Shin” figure of Fran from Final Fantasy XII, and a new collection of “primaniacs” fragrances for Final Fantasy XIV.

The “FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH Dear Destiny” novel is priced at 1,760 yen (approx. $11.40 USD / £8.62 GBP).
Pre-orders are open now at the Square Enix e-STORE in Japan and the book is scheduled to be released on January 30, 2026.
