New EarthBound merchandise announced as official store opens in Tokyo

Hobonichi has announced the release of a new range of merchandise and the opening of a limited-time official shop for the EarthBound/MOTHER games.
“MOTHER’s Store” will be located on the 6th floor of Shibuya PARCO, a prominent shopping complex in Tokyo, and will operate from Friday, July 25, 2025, to Monday, September 8, 2025.
The “MOTHER” series is a trio of role-playing games conceptualized and written by Shigesato Itoi.
Published by Nintendo, the series includes “MOTHER” (1989), “MOTHER 2: Giygas Strikes Back” (1994), and “MOTHER 3” (2006).

“MOTHER 2” was released as “EarthBound” in North America.
The games are known for their unique blend of humor, quirky characters, emotional depth, and unconventional modern settings, which subvert typical fantasy RPG tropes.
The “Hobonichi ‘MOTHER’ Project”, initiated by Shigesato Itoi’s company Hobonichi, serves as an ongoing endeavor to celebrate and expand upon the “MOTHER” universe through various content and merchandise.

While previous events have featured sales areas for “MOTHER” merchandise, this marks the first time a dedicated, official “MOTHER” store will open its doors for an extended period.
The location on the 6th floor of Shibuya PARCO will see the store located alongside a number of other video game-themed stores, including the Shibuya Pokémon Center, Nintendo Tokyo store, Capcom official store and the new SEGA Store Tokyo, which is due to open later this month.

The timing of the new store’s opening coincides with “The Shape of MOTHER”, a special exhibition held in the “Hobonichi Sunday” gallery space on the 8th floor of Shibuya PARCO.

This exhibition will notably feature all 180 original clay figures created as development materials for “MOTHER” and “MOTHER 2”, many of which will be publicly displayed for the very first time, offering fans a rare glimpse into the games’ artistic origins.

Visitors to “MOTHER’s Store” can expect a wide array of merchandise, including the latest summer-themed goods and popular best-selling items from previous merchandise collections.
Among the returning fan favorites are the Franklin Badge, an iconic protective item from the games, and plush toys of Mr. Saturn.

Mr. Saturn is a peculiar, endearing species from “MOTHER 2″/”EarthBound” known for their distinctive “Boing!” speech, unique font, and often philosophical pronouncements.

They reside in the Saturn Valley and are popular with fans for their charm and whimsical design.
Adding to the excitement are several new product collaborations, particularly with Izumiya, a long-established Japanese confectioner with a history spanning approximately 100 years, noted for being one of the first to sell cookies in Japan.
These new items include a “Saturn Valley Cookie Box”, which features cookies embossed with Mr. Saturn’s likeness.

The tin itself is designed with an uneven, three-dimensional surface, recreating the landscapes of Saturn Valley, complete with hot springs and houses.

Another sweet addition is the “Mr. Saturn Candy Bottle”, a charming, retro-shaped bottle topped with a bouncy silicone Mr. Saturn figure and filled with strawberry-flavored candies.

Once the candies are gone, the bottle can be repurposed for various uses.

Additionally, mini-sized “Square Tote” bags will be offered in three designs, including a “Samurai Pink” variant with a cute samurai pattern.

These bags are lightweight, durable, and feature an inner pocket and a string closure.

For those interested in purchasing, the new products will be available for online order through the “Hobonichi ‘MOTHER’ Project” website starting at 11:00 AM JST on Thursday, July 17th.
In-store availability, including at the Shibuya PARCO “MOTHER’s Store” and TOBICHI Tokyo, begins on Friday, July 25th.
Given the anticipated popularity of the new store, “MOTHER’s Store” may implement a numbered ticket system for entry during peak hours.
