Mobile Suit Gundam Anime Remaster Project Announced by Bandai Namco
Bandai Namco Filmworks has officially confirmed a massive remaster project for the original “Mobile Suit Gundam” anime series.
This exciting development was shared with audiences worldwide during the recent “Gundam Conference Spring 2026” livestream event.
This expansive restoration effort is being meticulously undertaken to celebrate the upcoming 50th anniversary of the entire mecha franchise.
The primary goal of the remaster is to introduce the foundational story that launched the global phenomenon to a completely new generation of modern viewers.
In addition to this monumental announcement, the digital presentation also confirmed the impending retirement of a major real-world franchise landmark.
Tokyo’s iconic life-size “Unicorn Gundam” statue, located outside the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza mall, will soon conclude its long-running exhibition.
The impressive one-to-one scale monument was originally constructed to faithfully recreate the mobile suit from the “Mobile Suit Gundam UC” animation and has fascinated fans since it was unveiled in 2017.
The conference also provided thrilling news for followers of the alternate century timeline, revealing that the fan-favorite series “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing” is receiving a brand new “visual project”.

This announcement closely follows the massive 30th-anniversary celebrations for the franchise that took place throughout the previous year.
Those recent festivities included a special promotional video screened at San Diego Comic-Con and 4K resolution theatrical screenings of the “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz” sequel across the United States.
The Gundam Wing universe has also expanded recently with a new manga titled “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing 0.5 Point Half Preventer-7” which launched last August.
Written by Katsuyuki Sumisawa and illustrated by Sakura Asagi, the comic directly bridges the gap between the animated sequel and the “Gundam Wing: Frozen Teardrop” novels.
