Tokyo’s Life Size Gundam Statue to Retire This August

Bandai Namco has officially announced the shock retirement of one of the most famous life-size mecha statues currently standing in Japan.

The massive attraction, which is a one-to-one scale statue of the Unicorn Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, has spent nearly a decade towering over visitors and locals in the Koto Ward of Tokyo.

It is prominently located directly outside of the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza shopping mall and has served as a central gathering point for tourists from across the world.

The striking installation was first unveiled to the general public back in September 2017 and has spent the last eight years and eleven months captivating diverse audiences.

It quickly established itself as a premier landmark within the Odaiba district and became a major foundational pillar for the local tourism economy.
