Lord of Mysteries MMORPG Reveals First Gameplay Footage

The popular Chinese web novel Lord of Mysteries is being adapted into a large-scale online role-playing game that promises to bring its eldritch world to life.
Developed by Spark Nexa, this new MMORPG utilizes the advanced capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 to recreate the atmospheric and dangerous setting of the original literary work.

The project has officially revealed its first gameplay footage, showcasing high-fidelity visuals that capture the unique blend of genres defined by the author, Cuttlefish.
The universe of Lord of Mysteries is known for its fusion of historical Victorian aesthetics with elements of the Cthulhu Mythos and steampunk technology.

In the newly released video, viewers are introduced to the city of “Tingen,” a major location familiar to readers of the book.
The footage highlights the European-style architecture, gas-lit streets, and industrial gloom that permeate the setting, demonstrating the developer’s commitment to faithful world-building.

A key point for this adaptation is the developer’s approach to the player character and story.
According to the development team at Spark Nexa, players will not control the novel’s protagonist, Klein Moretti.
Instead, they will create and control a completely original character, carving out their own destiny within the mysterious world.

This decision was made to prioritize the construction of a living, breathing world over a strict retelling of the plot found in the novel.
By allowing players to embody their own avatars, the game aims to be accessible to newcomers who have never read the web novel while still offering deep lore for long-time fans.

This approach allows for greater freedom in exploring the complex magic systems and political intrigues that define the series without being constrained by the established timeline of the books.
Recruitment for the game’s first closed beta test is currently underway for eager fans who wish to experience the world of “Beyonders” firsthand.

The current build of the game supports both Chinese and English text, suggesting a global focus for the title, though information regarding Japanese localization is expected to be announced at a later date.
Applications for the beta test are open until February 1 and the test itself is scheduled to begin shortly after on February 5.
