Hoyoverse announces imminent plans to remove Genshin Impact from PS4

HoYoverse has announced that it will be ending updates and support for the PlayStation 4 version of its popular open-world RPG, Genshin Impact.
The company cited technical limitations, including device performance and platform-specific application size restrictions, as the reasons for the discontinuation.

Genshin Impact was first released in 2020 and has been a massively popular title on the PlayStation 4 for its entire run.
The game is a constantly evolving, live-service title that receives large, regular updates with new regions, characters, and content, which has made it increasingly difficult to support on the older hardware.

The shutdown process for the PS4 version will be carried out in three phases over the next several months.
First, the game will be removed from the PlayStation Store, making it unavailable for new players to download.

Next, the ability to purchase in-game items through the PS4 version of the game will be disabled.
Finally, all game updates will cease, and it will no longer be possible to log into the game using a PlayStation 4 console.

HoYoverse has assured players that this will have no impact on the PlayStation 5 version of the game.
Due to the game’s cross-progression system, players can continue their journey with their existing account and all of their progress on a PlayStation 5 or any of the other supported platforms, such as PC or mobile.

Any unclaimed items that were purchased on the PlayStation Store will be redeemable by logging into the PS5 version after the PS4 service has ended.
The full shutdown schedule is as follows:
- End of service will occur on the 8th of April, 2026, with players no longer to log in from this date.
- The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store on the 10th of September.
- In-game item sales will be stopped on the 25th of February, 2026.
