Hatsune Miku’s Official Charity Project Returns to Help Aid Japan’s Earthquake Recovery
Image by Charlotte DavisCrypton Future Media has officially relaunched its Hatsune Miku Charity Project following the devastating Kumamoto earthquake, giving fans a new way to support recovery efforts while purchasing selected Hatsune Miku-related products and services.
Hatsune Miku is the world-famous virtual singer developed by Crypton Future Media whose music, live concerts and collaborations have helped transform Vocaloid into a global phenomenon, with the Piapro Characters continuing to attract millions of fans around the world.
The Hatsune Miku Charity Project has supported disaster relief efforts in the past, and now returns to help communities affected by the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture on July 28, 2026.
The disaster caused widespread damage to homes, businesses and essential infrastructure, forced thousands of residents into evacuation shelters and revived painful memories of the devastating 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes that also struck the region.
Rather than launching a standalone fundraising campaign, Crypton’s latest initiative integrates charitable giving across several of its existing services and events, allowing everyday purchases to contribute toward the recovery effort.
A portion of sales from the Snow Miku Sky Town store and its online shop, the KARENT Vocaloid music label, the SONICWIRE audio marketplace, and Crypton’s booths at Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai 2026 will all be donated during the campaign period.
Visitors to the permanent Snow Miku Sky Town location at New Chitose Airport will also be able to contribute directly through dedicated donation boxes, with every contribution being added to the relief fund.
After necessary processing costs have been deducted, the collected funds will be donated through the Japanese Red Cross Society as official relief funding for the victims of the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, with the final donation total scheduled to be announced once the campaign concludes.
Crypton joins a growing list of major Japanese gaming and entertainment companies that have stepped forward to support Kumamoto’s recovery over the past week.
The Pokémon Company has committed ¥100 million (approx. $633,000 USD / £471,000 GBP) to support both immediate relief efforts and long-term reconstruction, while Nintendo has pledged ¥50 million (approx. $317,000 USD / £235,000 GBP) alongside a free repair program for eligible Nintendo products owned by residents in designated disaster areas.
Square Enix has also donated ¥30 million (approx. $190,000 USD / £141,000 GBP) through the Japanese Red Cross Society, while Capcom recently announced a ¥10 million contribution (approx. $63,000 USD / £47,000 GBP), with part of the funding coming from proceeds generated by its upcoming Street Fighter League JAPAN 2026 preseason esports event.
The Hatsune Miku Charity Project campaign runs from August 4 through September 30, 2026, with donations generated through participating Crypton services and fundraising activities before being distributed via the Japanese Red Cross Society to support communities rebuilding after the disaster.
