Hatsune Miku’s New Live Concert Gives Her Most Popular Songs a Traditional Japanese Remix
Hatsune Miku’s music is about to be heard in a way fans have never experienced before, with a brand-new live production replacing electronic instruments with the powerful sound of traditional Japanese instruments
The upcoming “Kodo x Hatsune Miku Kyokyo: Japanese Instrument Special Live” concert introduces a completely new creative direction for the long-running collaboration between Hatsune Miku and the internationally acclaimed taiko ensemble Kodo, offering a fresh interpretation of some of the virtual singer’s most recognizable songs.
Hatsune Miku debuted as singing voice software from Crypton Future Media in 2007 before evolving into one of the world’s most recognizable virtual singers, inspiring thousands of original songs created by producers across the globe and becoming the face of the Vocaloid phenomenon.
Kodo is an internationally recognized taiko performing arts ensemble based on Japan’s Sado Island, known for combining the powerful sound of traditional drums with highly physical stage performances that have captivated audiences around the world.
Unlike the previous Hatsune Miku x Kodo Special Live performances held in 2017, 2018 and 2023, this production has been built around an entirely new concept that places traditional Japanese instruments at the heart of every arrangement.
Songs associated with Hatsune Miku and other virtual singers will be performed exclusively with taiko drums, koto and shamisen, transforming familiar melodies, rhythms and musical themes through the distinctive sound of Japanese instruments.
Rather than centering the performance around Hatsune Miku herself, the concert has been designed as a new Kodo stage production that combines the ensemble’s dynamic live performance with large-scale visual effects inspired by virtual singer music.
Hatsune Miku will contribute vocals during selected songs, although she will not physically appear on stage during the performances.
Joining Kodo will be acclaimed koto performer Shoko Kikutake and shamisen musician Reigen Fujii, creating an entirely acoustic ensemble without the electric guitars and drum kits featured during previous collaborations.
“Kodo x Hatsune Miku Kyokyo: Japanese Instrument Special Live” will take place across two performances at NHK Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo and advance applications for tickets are currently available through Ticket Pia until 11:59 PM JST on August 16, 2026.
The Special Goods S Seat, priced at ¥11,500 (approx. $73 USD / £55 GBP), includes an S-category ticket together with an exclusive concert logo ring light.
The standard S Seat, priced at ¥9,900 (approx. $63 USD / £47 GBP), offers the highest regular seating category without the additional merchandise.
The Special Goods A Seat, priced at ¥10,400 (approx. $66 USD / £50 GBP), includes an A-category ticket and the exclusive ring light.
The standard A Seat, priced at ¥8,800 (approx. $56 USD / £42 GBP), offers mid-tier seating for the performances.
The Special Goods B Seat, priced at ¥9,300 (approx. $59 USD / £44 GBP), combines a B-category ticket with the commemorative ring light.
The standard B Seat, priced at ¥7,700 (approx. $49 USD / £37 GBP), is the most affordable ticket option available.
The first performance will be held on November 20, 2026, with doors opening at 6:00 PM ahead of a 7:00 PM start, while the second performance takes place on November 21, 2026, with doors opening at 12:00 PM before a 1:00 PM performance.
