Gundam’s Char Aznable becomes the face of Japan’s most “macho” ice cream brand

A new collaboration has been announced which will see one of the most iconic characters from the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam promote a popular Japanese ice cream brand.
The new promotion by the “Dandy Chocolate” brand of ice cream from the manufacturer Futaba Foods features the famous antagonist Char Aznable and his signature red Zaku mobile suit, and is being held to celebrate the 21st year of the popular ice cream bar.

“Dandy Chocolate” is a large-sized “monaka,” or wafer, ice cream that was first launched in 2004 with a target audience of working men.

The brand is known for its rich chocolate flavor and its signature “baki-zaku,” or “crunchy and crispy,” texture.

This new collaboration is being launched to promote a new, evolved version of the classic ice cream, which features a renewed texture and a new, red-themed package design.

The partnership has two main components.
The first is a prize giveaway campaign, which is currently underway.
By applying through the official website, a total of 500 participants will be chosen by lottery to win a free, “Original QUO Card” worth ¥1,000, which features a special, Char Aznable design.

The application period for the giveaway is scheduled to run until 11:59 PM on the 13th of December, Japan Standard Time.
The second part of the collaboration is a new, special web video titled, “Dandy Chocolate ‘Is This the Newtype?!’ Chapter.”

This new promotional video will feature Char and his Zaku, and will include a new, re-arranged version of one of his most famous lines: “Let’s see it… the evolution of Dandy Chocolate!”
The new video is scheduled to be released on Monday, the 20th of October, and will be shown on digital signage at train stations in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, as well as on a variety of social media platforms, including YouTube, X, and Instagram.
