Digimon Adventure Reveals Exclusive New Digi-Egg Popcorn Buckets for Classic Film Re-Release
Image by Charlotte DavisDigimon Adventure’s original Digi-Eggs are becoming colorful new popcorn buckets, with eight different designs being released alongside the return of two of the franchise’s earliest movies to Korean cinemas.
Created exclusively for Korean cinema chain Megabox, the “Digi-Egg Popcorn Bucket” collection is based on the original eight partner Digimon from the 1999 TV anime: Agumon, Gabumon, Biyomon, Tentomon, Palmon, Gomamon, Patamon and Gatomon.
Each approximately 15 x 20 cm bucket recreates the rounded shape of a Digi-Egg while using a different brightly colored shell to represent one of the eight partners, turning one of Digimon’s most recognizable symbols into a functional cinema collectible.
The base adds another reference for longtime fans, using a circular green patterned design inspired by the Village of Beginnings on File Island, where newly born Digimon emerge from their Digi-Eggs.
Each bucket is also accompanied by a character keychain corresponding to the same group of eight partner Digimon, although both elements are being distributed randomly rather than allowing buyers to select a specific character.
The promotion has been created to accompany Megabox’s upcoming “Digimon Adventure: A Fateful Encounter & Our War Game!” Double Edition, which brings together two of director Mamoru Hosoda’s earliest Digimon theatrical projects in a single screening.
The first is the 1999 short film Digimon Adventure: A Fateful Encounter, also commonly known internationally as “Born of Koromon,” which takes place before the main television series and follows young Taichi and Hikari after a mysterious Digi-Egg emerges from their family’s computer.
The approximately 20-minute movie charts Koromon’s rapid evolution and the children’s first encounter with Digimon, serving as a prequel to the events that would later be expanded upon throughout the Digimon Adventure television series.
It is joined by 2000’s “Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!,” which shifts the action onto the internet as Taichi, Koshiro, and their partners attempt to stop a rapidly evolving Digimon before it causes a real-world catastrophe.
The two films are closely connected due to Hosoda’s direction, and Megabox’s combined release packages them into a single 61-minute program rather than screening them independently.
The Double Edition will open exclusively at Megabox cinemas in South Korea on September 16, with “Our War Game!” receiving its first official theatrical screening in the country as part of the release.
The Digi-Egg popcorn buckets are being sold separately through an early-bird promotion on the Megabox App Store, with each 25,900 won set (approximately $19 / £14) including one regular popcorn, one random Digi-Egg bucket and one random Digimon keychain.
Early-bird sales run from September 10 through September 20 with purchases limited to one set per person, although stock is allocated to each participating cinema and can sell out before the promotion officially ends.
Fans who secure a set can collect it from one of 38 designated Megabox locations beginning at 12:00 PM on September 23, with the collection period continuing through October 31.
