Fans eagerly awaiting the smartphone game adaptation of the popular anime series “Bungo Stray Dogs” will have to wait a little longer.

It was announced on May 20th, 2025, via the official website and social media channels, that “Gakuen Bungo Stray Dogs” will be delaying its release from the previously projected “first half of 2025.”

The developers cited the need to “deliver a higher quality game experience” as the reason for the postponement.

“Bungo Stray Dogs” is a hugely popular supernatural battle action series where characters named after real-life literary masters like Atsushi Nakajima, Osamu Dazai, and Ryūnosuke Akutagawa wield extraordinary powers.

The manga, written by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa, began serialization in “Young Ace” in 2012 and has since surpassed 16 million copies in circulation.

The TV anime adaptation first aired in April 2016 and has since broadcast five seasons, totaling 61 episodes. With the anime’s 10th anniversary approaching in April 2026, various new project developments are anticipated from 2025 onwards.

“Gakuen Bungo Stray Dogs” is being developed, operated, and distributed by NextNinja.

The project was initially launched in April 2023, promising an alternate “school” setting for the series’ characters.

As recently as April 2025, the development team highlighted its commitment to creating a “youth adventure where daily life and the extraordinary intersect,” featuring a main story with original voice acting and a line-strategy battle system utilizing characters’ unique “abilities.”

The decision to delay was conveyed by the development team, stating their commitment to “further improving the quality of the game.”

While no new release date has been announced, the team assured fans that it “will be announced again at a later date,” urging them to stay tuned for future updates.

Fan reactions on X (formerly Twitter) have been largely supportive, demonstrating the strong dedication of the “Bungo Stray Dogs” community.

This delay, while pushing back the immediate gratification of a new game, shows the developers’ dedication to delivering a polished and engaging experience that lives up to the high standards set by the “Bungo Stray Dogs” franchise.
