Basketball Classics Launches on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch

Publisher Acclaim and developer Namo Gamo have officially released the 8-bit inspired sports title Basketball Classics for modern consoles.

The game is now available for purchase on Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch as of March 19, 2026.

Players can acquire the title for a standard price of $9.99, though a 10 percent discount is currently active to celebrate the console launch.

Basketball Classics originally debuted in Early Access for PC via Steam on March 24, 2018, before reaching its full version on December 18, 2019.

Alongside the new console versions, the PC edition has also expanded its availability to the Microsoft Store.

The project is described as a spiritual successor to classic 8-bit basketball games, aiming to bridge the gap between retro aesthetics and modern simulation depth.

The gameplay features five-on-five professional action with simplified three-button controls and a side-scrolling arcade perspective..

Despite the simple controls, the experience includes deep mechanics such as attribute-rich players and a dynamic play-calling system.

The game boasts an extensive roster of over 175 teams and more than 1,000 individual players spanning several decades of basketball history.

Users can participate in a single-player Story Mode to unlock secret teams and legendary players or engage in local multiplayer matches.

Developer Namo Gamo emphasized a commitment to a classic experience by excluding virtual currency, pay-to-win mechanics, and microtransactions.

Co-founder David Pilkington noted that the console release fulfills a decade-long dream for the indie team, who are already looking toward a follow-up titled Super Basketball Classics.
