Bandai Reveals METAL BUILD Gundam Barbatos Option Set with Huge New Rifle Cannons
Bandai Hobby has announced the upcoming release of an exciting new weapon accessory set based on the hit mecha franchise Mobile Suit Gundam.
The new “METAL BUILD Gundam Barbatos Option Set” provides builders and collectors with a massive array of heavy weaponry to expand the display options of the previously released base figure.
The Mobile Suit Gundam series revolutionized the anime industry by treating giant mechanical weapons as realistic military hardware rather than superhero figures.
The Iron-Blooded Orphans anime introduced a gritty and visceral take on the franchise’s signature mecha combat.
Set in the Post Disaster timeline, the story follows a group of child soldiers who form a mercenary company named Tekkadan to survive in a harsh and unforgiving solar system.
Their primary weapon is the Gundam Barbatos, an ancient and highly customizable machine salvaged from a devastating conflict known as the Calamity War.
This premium accessory pack is specifically designed to enhance the existing die-cast METAL BUILD action figure, which is sold separately.
The massive Rifle Cannon features a fully transformable design that was newly conceptualized by series director Tatsuyuki Nagai and mechanical designer Naohiro Washio.
Fans can also equip the robot with specialized waist thruster units and a pair of traditional Japanese-style Tachi and Kodachi swords.
These specific bladed weapons and thrusters originally appeared on the Gundam Barbatos Adapt in the 10th anniversary animated short “Wedge of Interposition”.
The impressive equipment set utilizes a combination of ABS plastic and sturdy die-cast metal components.
When fully assembled, each of the massive rifle cannons measure approximately 28 centimeters in length, providing an incredibly imposing silhouette.
The option set also includes specialized joint components and an additional support pillar to help collectors recreate dynamic mid-air flight poses without stressing the joints of the main figure.
The “METAL BUILD Gundam Barbatos Option Set” is priced at 16,500 yen (approx. £86 GBP / $109 USD).
Online pre-orders will open on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 4:00 PM JST, exclusively through Premium Bandai.
The accessory kit is currently scheduled to begin shipping out to customers in August 2026.
