Bandai Confirms Re-Release for Zeta Gundam’s Exclusive Transformable Wave Shooter Gunpla Kit

Bandai is bringing back one of the more specialized versions of Zeta Gundam, giving builders another opportunity to pick up its alternative flight-equipped High Grade configuration.
The returning “HGUC 1/144 Zeta Gundam (Wave Shooter)” recreates Kamille Bidan’s transformable Mobile Suit with a different set of wing binders that allow it to assume the Wave Shooter form instead of its conventional Wave Rider configuration.

Zeta Gundam serves as the central Mobile Suit of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, piloted by Kamille during the AEUG’s conflict against the Titans and developed around a movable frame that allows it to transform between Mobile Suit and high-speed flight forms.

The Wave Shooter takes that concept in a different direction by sacrificing the Zeta Gundam’s atmospheric re-entry capability in favor of equipment intended to improve its performance during sustained flight within the atmosphere.

Its redesigned wing binders incorporate enlarged variable-sweep wings, while the shield forms the extended nose of the aircraft-like configuration, and additional thrusters help support its altered flight characteristics.

The configuration was created to improve areas such as low-altitude flight, takeoff and landing performance, and operational range, giving the Zeta Gundam a very different profile once transformed.

Bandai first released the current HGUC Wave Shooter kit through Premium Bandai in October 2017, adapting the then-new Gunpla Evolution Project version of Zeta Gundam with additional parts developed specifically for this configuration.

Newly molded sections include the larger wing binders, variable-sweep wings and dedicated shield, allowing the finished model to reproduce the changes that separate the Wave Shooter from the standard HGUC Zeta Gundam.

Its transformation system allows the Mobile Suit to be displayed in the complete Wave Shooter configuration, with landing gear also included for displaying the transformed machine while equipped with its Hyper Mega Launcher.

That large weapon forms part of a broader loadout consisting of the Hyper Mega Launcher, Beam Rifle, Beam Sabers, and shield, retaining the major weapons associated with Zeta Gundam while adding plenty of options for either Mobile Suit or transformed displays.

The underlying Gunpla Evolution Project construction also gives the Mobile Suit the articulation needed to hold the oversized Hyper Mega Launcher without reducing the kit to a straightforward transformation-focused display piece.
Its return follows several other recent releases connected to Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, including the newly announced re-release of Gates Capa’s gray-blue HG Baund Doc, which is returning through Premium Bandai for the first time in around five years.

Bandai has also brought back updated HG versions of the standard Rick Dias and Quattro Bajeena’s red custom in 2026, while the Zeta Gundam itself recently received a new anime-faithful ROBOT Spirits ver. A.N.I.M.E. figure.

Pre-orders for the “HGUC 1/144 Zeta Gundam (Wave Shooter)” re-release opened through Premium Bandai Japan on September 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM JST.

A corresponding Premium Bandai US re-release has not yet been announced, although Japanese Premium Bandai Gunpla reissues frequently receive separate US listings in the following days or weeks, so an opportunity for American builders may follow.
The kit is priced at ¥2,420 (approximately $16 USD / £11 GBP) and is scheduled to ship in January 2027.
