AI Megpoid Officially Confirmed as VOCALOID7’s First Dedicated Launch Voicebank
Image by Charlotte DavisInternet Co. has officially confirmed Megpoid, better known to many fans as GUMI, as one of the launch voicebanks for Yamaha’s newly announced VOCALOID7 platform.
The new “VOCALOID7 Voicebank AI Megpoid” will release alongside the “VOCALOID7 Editor” on November 11, 2026, making it the first dedicated standalone commercial voicebank announced specifically for the software’s debut.

Megpoid first debuted in 2009 as a VOCALOID2 voicebank based on the voice of singer and voice actress Megumi Nakajima, who is also known as the voice provider behind GUMI’s long-running virtual singer identity.
Over the years, GUMI has become one of the most recognizable singers in the wider VOCALOID scene outside Crypton Future Media’s lineup, appearing across countless fan songs and multiple generations of Yamaha’s vocal synthesis software.

That long history gives AI Megpoid a particularly strong role in the transition to VOCALOID7, as one of the best-known established characters now helping introduce the platform’s next generation.
Yamaha officially announced VOCALOID7 on October 9, four years after the release of VOCALOID6 and less than six months after the launch of “Hatsune Miku V6”.

The new “VOCALOID7 Editor” will continue to support all voicebanks released for VOCALOID3 through VOCALOID6, allowing existing libraries to remain usable rather than forcing users to abandon older purchases.
That compatibility also applies to Hatsune Miku, whose newly released V6 Japanese and English voicebanks can continue to be used inside VOCALOID7 with their original synthesis versions.

Crypton Future Media has also confirmed that new VOCALOID7-compatible Japanese and English versions of the “Hatsune Miku V6” voicebanks are now in development and are planned to be distributed free of charge to all existing Miku V6 users as early as possible in 2027.
A VOCALOID7-compatible Chinese version of Miku is also planned to follow later.
Future copies of “Hatsune Miku V6” will also transition into the new environment after VOCALOID7 launches, with the regular voicebank package switching from “VOCALOID6 Editor Lite” to “VOCALOID7 Editor Lite” and the Starter Pack replacing its bundled V6 editor with the full “VOCALOID7 Editor”.

As for GUMI’s own new release, AI Megpoid has been optimized specifically for VOCALOID7’s AI engine and includes eight selectable voice styles: Native, Whisper, Cute, Downer, Power, Soft, Vivid and Ballade.
That gives users a wider range of tonal variation from a single package, from lighter and gentler performances through to stronger and more forceful vocals.

Yamaha has also confirmed that AI Megpoid will not be the only voice available when VOCALOID7 launches.
A new bundled voicebank named “asa” will be included directly with the “VOCALOID7 Editor,” ensuring that all editor buyers receive a default voice at launch.

LUCI, based on Akatsuki Luci, is also scheduled to arrive on November 11 through Yamaha’s VOCALOID FAN-ding project.
That project was originally preparing several of its reward voicebanks for VOCALOID6, but Yamaha has now confirmed that unreleased rewards will instead be provided as VOCALOID7-compatible voicebanks.
The next of those is “Tsunose Kotone,” which is currently scheduled for late December, while Ouka Miko, Amehare Hau, Yukine Riu V and Yogatari Tobari are also set to move forward as VOCALOID7-compatible releases.
Taken together, that means VOCALOID7 is currently set to launch with three voices immediately available in different forms: the bundled “asa,” the dedicated “VOCALOID7 Voicebank AI Megpoid” and the FAN-ding release LUCI.

Yamaha has not yet detailed all of VOCALOID7’s new functions, stating only that fuller information about the editor and additional voicebanks will be shared later.
What has already been confirmed is the pricing and upgrade path for the new software.
The standard “VOCALOID7 Editor” will launch on November 11 for ¥16,500 (approximately $105/£80), while the “VOCALOID7 Editor Upgrade Version” will normally cost ¥8,580 (approximately $55/£41) and drop to a limited-time launch price of ¥5,500 (approximately $35/£26) through December 20.

Existing users of VOCALOID3 through VOCALOID6, as well as VOCALOID Editor for Cubase, will be eligible for the upgrade as long as they have a valid serial number, although “VOCALOID6 Editor Lite” and “VOCALO CHANGER PLUGIN” are excluded.
For AI Megpoid itself, the packaged “VOCALOID7 Voicebank AI Megpoid” is priced at ¥13,200 (approximately $84/£64) and the download edition at ¥11,220 (approximately $71/£54).

Fans who want both the editor and GUMI together can also choose the “VOCALOID7 Starter Pack AI Megpoid,” which is priced at ¥27,500 (approximately $175/£133) for the packaged version and ¥23,375 (approximately $149/£113) for the download edition.
Pre-orders for AI Megpoid opened on October 9 ahead of the November 11 release date, with the new voicebank set to stand at the front of VOCALOID7’s launch as the platform’s first dedicated commercial release.
