Yamaha has officially announced VOCALOID7 just under six months after the launch of Hatsune Miku V6, revealing the next major generation of its long-running vocal synthesis software.

The new “VOCALOID7 Editor” succeeds VOCALOID6 after four years and will introduce a new generation of dedicated voicebanks while continuing to support existing releases dating back to VOCALOID3.

VOCALOID has provided the technology behind some of the world’s best-known virtual singers since the software first launched in 2003, allowing producers to create vocals by entering melodies and lyrics into compatible voicebanks.

Hatsune Miku became its most internationally recognizable virtual singer after debuting as a VOCALOID2 voicebank in 2007, and her latest major software release only arrived earlier this year.

“Hatsune Miku V6” officially launched on April 14, 2026, with new AI-powered vocals and separate Original and Soft voicebanks, making the October 9 announcement of an entirely new VOCALOID generation particularly eye-catching.

That does not mean Miku’s recently released software is already being replaced, however, as Yamaha has confirmed that every voicebank released for VOCALOID3 through VOCALOID6 will remain compatible with the new editor.

Existing “Hatsune Miku V6” voicebanks can therefore continue to be used inside VOCALOID7, although they will initially retain the synthesis technology associated with their original version.

Crypton Future Media is also working directly with Yamaha on new VOCALOID7-compatible versions of the “Hatsune Miku V6” Japanese and English voicebanks, which are planned to be provided free of charge to all existing Miku V6 users as early as possible in 2027.

A VOCALOID7-compatible Chinese voicebank is also in development, with Crypton aiming to make it available as soon as possible after the Japanese and English versions.

Future copies of “Hatsune Miku V6” will also transition directly to the new editor after VOCALOID7 launches, with the standard voicebank package switching from “VOCALOID6 Editor Lite” to “VOCALOID7 Editor Lite” and the Starter Pack replacing its bundled “VOCALOID6 Editor” with the full “VOCALOID7 Editor”.

VOCALOID7 arrives four years after VOCALOID6, which launched in October 2022 and introduced Yamaha’s VOCALOID synthesis engine alongside a substantially redesigned editor.

Full details of VOCALOID7’s new functions have not yet been revealed, with Yamaha confirming that additional information about the editor and its upcoming voicebanks will be announced later.

What has already been confirmed is the initial group of voices that will be available as the new generation launches.

A new voicebank named “asa” will be bundled directly with the “VOCALOID7 Editor,” giving every purchaser an immediately available voice for music production.

Internet Co. will separately release “VOCALOID7 Voicebank AI Megpoid” on the same day, giving GUMI the first dedicated standalone commercial voicebank created specifically for VOCALOID7.

The new AI Megpoid is based once again on singer and voice actress Megumi Nakajima and has been optimized specifically for VOCALOID7’s AI engine, with eight selectable voice types ranging from Native and Whisper to Power, Vivid and Ballade.

LUCI, based on Akatsuki Luci, will also become available at launch through Yamaha’s VOCALOID FAN-ding project.

That release was originally planned as a VOCALOID6 reward, but Yamaha has confirmed that FAN-ding voicebanks that had yet to ship will instead be supplied as VOCALOID7 versions.

Tsunose Kotone is scheduled to follow in late December, with Ouka Miko, Amehare Hau, Yukine Riu V and Yogatari Tobari also included among the voicebanks moving from their originally planned VOCALOID6 releases to VOCALOID7.

The transition means VOCALOID7 will launch with “asa,” AI Megpoid, and LUCI available from day one, while additional dedicated and migrated voicebanks will expand the lineup afterward.

Existing VOCALOID3 through VOCALOID6 users will also have access to the “VOCALOID7 Editor Upgrade Version” using a valid serial number, excluding VOCALOID6 Editor Lite and the VOCALO CHANGER PLUGIN.

Fans who purchase the “Hatsune Miku V6 Starter Pack” from October 9 are among those eligible for Yamaha’s transition offer, which provides a coupon covering the promotional VOCALOID7 upgrade price once the new editor launches.

For Miku V6 users who purchased before October 9, Crypton is still discussing the exact upgrade arrangements with Yamaha and plans to announce further details before VOCALOID7 launches.

The “VOCALOID7 Editor” will officially launch on November 11, 2026 for $129 before tax, while the upgrade edition is normally priced at $69.
