Miura Kaigan Cherry Blossom Festival 2026

Last Updated on March 6, 2026

The coastal region of Kanagawa is preparing for the return of the Miura Kaigan Cherry Blossom Festival, a local tradition that has been celebrated since 2003.

The event highlights the early blooming kawazuzakura variety, which offers a vibrant display of pink petals well before the more common somei yoshino trees begin to flower.

Approximately 1,000 of these specialty trees will line the scenic walking route stretching from Miura Kaigan Station to Komatsugaike Park, creating a natural corridor for pedestrians.

Organizers expect a significant turnout for the upcoming festivities, noting that previous years have seen upwards of 300,000 visitors arriving to catch the first signs of spring.

In addition to the floral displays, the festival serves as a vital celebration of the region’s natural beauty and marks the transition away from the winter season.

Travelers planning to attend are encouraged to utilize public transportation such as the Keikyu Kurihama Line to reach the venue, as local roads often experience heavy congestion during the peak blooming period.

The proximity of the station to the start of the trail makes the event accessible for those coming from the greater Tokyo area who wish to see the blossoms ahead of the standard schedule.

Local officials advise guests to prepare for crowds and to enjoy the unique horticultural experience that has become a staple of the Miura Peninsula’s annual calendar.
