Light of Hope 2026

Last Updated on March 6, 2026

The city of Gyoda is preparing to host its monthly hanachozu week, an event where dozens of local venues decorate their premises with intricate floral water fonts.

Visitors to the area will have the opportunity to view these colorful displays at various locations including the Oshi Castle Ruins, Gyoda Hachiman Shrine, and Maedama Shrine.

While the floral fonts are typically available for public viewing over a two week period each month, a special night event known as the Light of Hope is scheduled to take place on the first Saturday of the month.

During this evening celebration, Oshi Castle will be illuminated while the floral fonts at Gyoda Hachiman and Sakitama shrines will be featured in a special light up display.

The evening festivities are set to begin at sunset and will continue until 8:00 PM, with extended hours until 8:30 PM planned for the spring months.

Travelers planning to attend the event can access the participating sites via a walk from Gyodashi Station on the Chichibu Tetsudo line.

For those arriving by vehicle, complimentary parking will be provided at several convenient locations including Gyoda City Hall and the various parking lots at Hachiman Shrine.

Organizers suggest that guests wear comfortable walking shoes as they explore the various floral installations spread throughout the historic city.
