Bikkuri Hinamatsuri 2026
Last Updated on March 6, 2026

Konosu City is preparing to host the annual Bikkuri Hinamatsuri, a massive celebration of the traditional Hina-doll festival also known as Girl’s Day.
The event will showcase Japan’s highest pyramid-shaped doll displays at various locations, with the primary exhibit situated at the Elumi Konosu Shopping Mall.
Rooted in ancient ceremonies held at shrines and the Emperor’s court, these dolls were originally simple paper figures used to ward off bad spirits and illness from newborn babies.
Over centuries, the practice evolved from floating the dolls down rivers to displaying ornate and decorative figures in the home as lucky charms for a daughter’s happiness.
A complete traditional set features an Emperor and Empress accompanied by three female attendants, five musicians, two palace guards, and three footmen.
Throughout the three-week festival, the historical doll-making district will offer visitors access to unique markets, educational workshops, and a variety of live performances.
To facilitate travel between the many display sites across the city, free shuttle buses will be available for public use on weekends.
Information regarding the full schedule of events and specific exhibit locations can be found on the official Japanese website maintained by the executive committee.
