Zenless Zone Zero Expands with Major Story Update and Free Rewards in Version 3.0

miHoYo has announced that Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.0, titled A Sleepwalker’s Confession, will be released on June 17 alongside the game’s debut on Steam, complete with cross-platform progression support.

The update marks the beginning of Season 3 and introduces players to Roscaelifer, a previously inaccessible floating island that will serve as the setting for the next major chapter of the story.

Two new S-Rank characters will make their debut during the update cycle, beginning with the Wind-attribute Anomaly Agent Velina, followed by the Fire-attribute Stun Agent Norma.

As part of the Season 3 launch celebration, all players will receive the Phaethon faction Agent Pyrois and a total of 1,600 Polychromes as free rewards.

The main storyline centers on the Proxies, who are invited by the Mayor of New Eridu to travel to Roscaelifer after a mysterious Ether-related condition within their bodies once again becomes unstable.

Upon arriving at the island as transfer students under the guidance of Velina, who serves as the Administrative Director of the External Strategy Department, the protagonists begin investigating the origins of a hidden power known as Pyrois that resides within them.

At the same time, tensions are rising across Roscaelifer due to controversy surrounding Bangboo chips developed by the External Strategy Department.

A series of Bangboo self-destruction incidents has caused public concern, unusual disturbances have appeared within the Energy Hub’s Hollows, and the image of first-generation Void Hunter Remielle Dan has begun resurfacing throughout the city.

As these mysteries unfold, a new threat gradually emerges in the background.

Velina becomes the game’s first Wind-attribute Agent and specializes in applying Wind Anomaly buildup that can place enemies into a Windswept state.

When Windswept is combined with another Attribute Anomaly, a special Vortex reaction is triggered that inflicts area-of-effect damage matching the secondary attribute on nearby opponents.

Her effectiveness increases significantly when paired with multiple Anomaly Agents or characters sharing her attribute, and her potential is expected to grow further as additional compatible Agents are introduced in future updates.

Norma serves as the External Strategy Department’s Chief Technician and is also a central figure within the Marcel Group’s technology division.

Her combat style revolves around a unique hat that continuously generates Preheated Chamber resources regardless of whether she is currently active in battle.

Once enough resources have been accumulated, she can transform teammates’ Quick Assists into Chain Attacks, creating extra opportunities for coordinated team assaults.

The update will also feature the return of Ye Shunguang and Sunna together with their exclusive W-Engines.

Roscaelifer itself contains a variety of unique locations for players to discover and explore.

Roarin’ Brekkies offers a different cookie reward each day, while the hidden Spotlight Theater stages performances where every role is played by Bangboo characters.

Players will also encounter a mysterious sky bus whose secret route can only be unlocked by summoning it at a specific time.

A new Universal Terminal system grants access to surveillance cameras across the city, allowing first-person reconnaissance and scanning activities.

Players will additionally be able to operate drones alongside Eous for specialized missions.

Within Scamall Hollow, the spatial movement powers of Pyrois can be used to travel at high speed aboard the Aerial Transit system.

Exploration becomes even more unpredictable when Singularity Leakages occur, creating overlapping dimensions that alter environmental conditions and gameplay mechanics.

In these situations, Pyrois’ unique abilities become essential for restoring stability and overcoming the anomaly.

A new progression feature known as Interboo records discoveries made throughout Roscaelifer and converts exploration milestones into rewards such as Polychromes and other bonuses.

Version 3.0 also introduces a permanent gameplay mode called Bangbang! The Genius and the Miracle Chip.

This mode allows players to assemble and command Collaboorator teams tasked with restoring the Central Computing Hub and completing chip-development projects.

Another permanent addition, Annihilation Simulacrum, focuses on difficult boss encounters that remove elemental strengths and weaknesses in favor of skill-based combat and mechanical mastery.

Several limited-time events will also become available following the update, offering rewards that include a Tuning Calibrator, a W-Engine, Polychromes, exclusive titles, and new Drive Disc sets.

A special costume for Velina named Shade of Leisure will become available for purchase after the update launches.

Numerous quality-of-life improvements are also being implemented throughout the game.

A new Smart Discard function for Drive Discs will allow unwanted equipment to be processed in bulk, simplifying inventory management.

The Drive Disc Tuning interface will be updated to prioritize equipment sets associated with active training plans.

Beginning with Version 3.0, cosmetic accessories such as hats, hair ornaments, earrings, and glasses will become universal items that can be freely mixed and matched across different protagonist outfits.

PC players with compatible hardware will gain access to enhanced graphics featuring ray-traced global illumination, alongside DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation support to improve both image quality and performance.

The new Advance Screening feature will allow players to immediately access the Season 3 storyline without first completing all prior content.

By progressing through the Version 3.0 main story, players can obtain Agent Pyrois and a Season 3-themed outfit for their Proxy character at no cost.

miHoYo has also confirmed that all of Pyrois’ Mindscapes and the character’s exclusive W-Engine will be distributed for free through future updates.

Players will receive 600 Polychromes simply by logging in after the update becomes available, while an additional 1,000 Polychromes will be distributed on July 4 to celebrate the second anniversary of Zenless Zone Zero’s launch.

Zenless Zone Zero is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, iOS, and Android platforms, with the Steam version scheduled to launch alongside Version 3.0 on June 17 at no additional cost as part of the game’s free-to-play release model.
