You can soon own a life size replica of 2B’s sword from NieR:Automata

A Japanese company has created a life-size replica of 2B’s sword, Virtuous Contract, from the game NieR: Automata.

Hibino Corporation, based in Minato-ku, Tokyo, has created what it describes as an “innovative smart toy” that recreates the iconic weapon on a 1/1 scale.

This meticulously crafted “smart toy”, which will be 139cm in length, will be a faithful reproduction of the sword known as “Virtuous Contract,” a weapon used by 2B in the critically acclaimed video game “NieR:Automata.”

Under the careful and exacting supervision of Square Enix, the replica has been designed to faithfully recreate “Virtuous Contract” with an exceptional level of intricate detail, at the same time as incorporating synchronized sound and light effects that respond dynamically to the user’s movements.

The replica is a full scale recreation of the “Virtuous Contract” blade

In order to authentically reproduce the sword, considerable attention has been paid to even the smallest details of its shape and coloration.

Notably, the habaki (the collar between the blade and the hilt that helps lock the tsuba in position) and the hilt itself have been treated with a weathering process to realistically express the accumulation of dirt and the presence of battle-worn scars, effectively conveying a tangible texture as if the weapon has indeed been used extensively on a battlefield.

Details, including the pommel, have been expertly recreated

The weight balance of the replica has been carefully adjusted to ensure that it is not excessively heavy, while still providing a satisfying tactile response to user interaction, thereby allowing fans to fully enjoy the act of swinging the replica sword.

The wrapping on the handle of “Virtuous Contract” is constructed from the same type of braided cord that is traditionally used for the handles of authentic Japanese swords.

The handle features traditional braided cord

This design choice is directly based on the visual representation of the sword within the game, allowing users to appreciate the intricate beauty of the delicate weave and experience the comfortable and secure grip afforded by this traditional wrapping technique.

The tsuba, or handguard, of the “Virtuous Contract” replica is manufactured from a substantial heavy metal material.

The replica includes a die-cast handguard

The complex and visually distinctive design of the tsuba has been precisely reproduced through a die-casting process, resulting in a smooth and high-quality feel.

As a testament to the exclusivity and collectibility of this item, each individual unit of the “Virtuous Contract” replica will also feature a unique serial number meticulously engraved upon it, effectively making each piece a one-of-a-kind original item for its owner.

The replica also incorporates advanced technological features, and is equipped with an internal acceleration sensor.

This sensor detects the movement of the device, causing the blade of the replica sword to illuminate with integrated lights in direct response to the user’s actions.

Lights are integrated into the blade itself

When the user swings the sword, it emits the same distinctive slashing sound effects that are prominently featured within the “NieR:Automata” game, further enhancing the immersive experience and faithfully recreating the game’s atmosphere.

Adding another layer of authenticity, the replica also features the character voice of the main protagonist, 2B.

By performing specific movements with the replica sword, users can trigger the playback of familiar lines of dialogue spoken by the character, allowing for an even deeper connection to the game’s narrative and characters.

The life-size replica of 2B’s sword will soon be available to order

Pre-orders for this highly anticipated item will begin on the official Hibino Corporation e-commerce website, accessible at https://smart.hibino.com/, starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6th, 2025.

The base price for the “Virtuous Contract” smart toy has been set at 89,100 yen (including tax, approx. $614.93 USD / £475.97 GBP), and the initial deliveries of the product are scheduled to commence in November 2025.

To coincide with the decision to initiate pre-order acceptance, a fully functional prototype of this remarkable product will be unveiled to the public for the very first time during the “NieR Series 15th Anniversary Live Broadcast.”

This special live stream event, featuring various individuals deeply involved with the “NieR” video game series, is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19th, 2025. The live stream can be viewed via the official Square Enix YouTube account.
