Yakuza Series Gets Second Sake Collaboration Starring Goro Majima
To celebrate the announcement of the latest game in the Yakuza series, “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii”, Yakuza will once again be teaming up with Hiroshima based Kamotsuru Sake Brewery Co. to release a collaborative sake based on the popular game series.
Officially titled “Junmai Daiginjo Shimano no Mad Dog”, this is now the second installment of the sake collaboration series, with fan favourite Goro Majima taking center stage instead of his rival Kazuma Kiryu on whom the first collaboration sake was based.
The label and box utilise gold and black colouring to evoke the essence of Goro Majima, whilst the two tone illustration style that features brush stroke elements perfectly matches the feel of traditional Japanese sake.
With all ingredients sourced in Hiroshima prefecture where Kamotsuru are based, the raw rice used to create the finished product is Yamada Nishiki, a type of rice suitable for sake brewing that is said to be the king of sake rice.
The rice is polished in-house to a polishing ratio of 50%, the minimum required by law for Junmai Daiginjo sake.
This rice is then taken through a number of processes by hand in the cold winter by a Hiroshima master brewer, using underground water from the Kamo Mountains that has taken about 15 years to come to fruition.
The culmination of the skill of the brewer mixed with the quality of rice and the conditions under which the sake is produced imparts a gorgeous aroma as well as an umami and richness to the finished product.
With a deep and slightly dry flavour, the sake is said to enhance any dish it is paired with and it can be enjoyed chilled or at room temperature.
Set to release on the 17th of October and priced at 5,500 yen for a 720ml bottle, reservations for the sake can now be made online via the Kamotsuru Direct Online Store.
Pre-ordered items will ship on the 17th of October, with any remaining sake being available for purchase via the Kamotsuru Direct Online Store or the Saketsunagi Online Shop.
If you missed the first sake in the collection you’re also now in luck, as the “Daiginjo Dojima no Ryu” will be re-sold online for a limited time starting from the 17th of October, also priced at 5,500 yen.
A set containing both sake will be available from the 17th of October, priced at 11,000 yen via the Kamotsuru and Saketsunagi online shops.
Stock will be limited and is expected to sell out, so you’ll need to be quick to get your hands on this collaboration!
