Take a look at the Gundam Card Game’s Starter Decks as it prepares for launch this July
The “Gundam Card Game” will shortly have its official worldwide release and a new commercial promoting the game has been released.
The new commercial is a collaboration with Japanese pop trio Perfume and their new song “Solar Wind”.
This marks a major promotional push for the trading card game project, which is set to begin its worldwide release next month.
The “Gundam Card Game” is a new trading card game (TCG) that allows players to build decks and simulate battles using cards featuring iconic Mobile Suits and characters from across the vast “Mobile Suit Gundam” universe.
It is designed to be accessible to both new players and seasoned TCG veterans, with rules that support 1v1 play as well as multiplayer formats like “Team Battle” and “Battle Royale”.
The game is launching simultaneously in three languages: Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese.
The first wave of products will include four unique pre-constructed “Starter Decks” which have been designed to introduce players to different factions and gameplay styles from the franchise.
Each Starter Deck contains a 50-card pre-constructed deck, 10 resource cards, 8 token cards, a damage counter sheet, a play sheet, and a bonus pack with additional cards.
The four decks are:
- Start Deck Heroic Beginnings [ST01]
A deck that combines mobile suits from the original “Mobile Suit Gundam” and the more recent “Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury” to offer a balanced combat style.
- Start Deck Wings of Advance [ST02]
A deck centered on “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing,” focusing on increasing resources to deploy powerful units like Wing Gundam and Tallgeese.
- Start Deck Zeon’s Rush [ST03]
A deck featuring a mix of units from different eras of Zeon, including Char Aznable’s Zaku II and the Neo Zeon’s Sinanju. This deck is designed for players who prefer to overwhelm opponents with a large number of units.
- Start Deck SEED Strike [ST04]
A deck based on “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED,” allowing for flexible play by utilizing “linked units” with characters like Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala.
In a unique collaboration with the new “GUNDAM ASSEMBLE” tabletop game, there will also be special versions of these four Starter Decks that include miniature Gunpla figures.
GUNDAM ASSEMBLE is an upcoming tabletop skirmish game that uses small, 5cm-sized Gunpla figures for battles.
These miniature figures, which require assembly, can be used as tokens in the “Gundam Card Game” to add a three-dimensional element to the gameplay.
The special edition Starter Decks that include three GUNDAM ASSEMBLE figures will be priced at 3,300 yen each.
The first Booster Pack set for the card game will be “Booster Pack 1: Newtype Rising [GD01]”.
This booster pack set will contain cards designed to strengthen the four starter decks and will introduce a large number of cards from series that were not included in the initial decks.
Each booster pack will contain 6 cards plus a bonus card and will be sold for 242 yen.
The “Gundam Card Game” has a robust release schedule planned for the latter half of 2025 with a further number of Starter Decks and another Booster Pack set planned.
This steady stream of new products is designed to keep the game fresh and provide players with new strategies and cards to collect.
The Starter Decks will be the first products released and will hit the shelves on Saturday, July 12th, 2025.
Following the release of the Starter Decks, the first booster pack, “Booster Pack 1: Newtype Rising [GD01],” will be released on Saturday, July 26th.
To promote the launch of the Starter Decks and Booster Packs, BANDAI will be holding in-store events where fans can receive free gifts.
Fans at Starter Deck events will receive exclusive “Strike Gundam” and “Kira Yamato” cards as well as resource card sleeves.
Booster Pack events will see Mobile Suit Gundam UC cards and storage boxes given away.
