Square Enix Confirms New Final Fantasy TCG “Symphony of Heroes” Booster Set for March 2027
Image by Charlotte DavisSquare Enix has officially revealed “Symphony of Heroes,” the next major booster set for the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, with the new expansion set to launch worldwide in March 2027.
The release will become the 31st entry in FFTCG’s long-running Opus series and brings together protagonists from across multiple Final Fantasy games, while also introducing an entirely new “Level Up” gameplay mechanic.
Final Fantasy Trading Card Game originally launched in Japan in 2011 before being completely reworked for its international Opus debut in 2016, bringing heroes, villains, monsters, and summons from across the RPG franchise together in a strategic two-player card game.
The upcoming expansion will follow “Memories of Life,” which launches in November 2026 as Opus 30 and celebrates the 10th anniversary of FFTCG’s international release with new artwork, Full Art Premium cards and characters from across the wider Final Fantasy series.
“Symphony of Heroes” takes its name from its focus on protagonists and will introduce a new Level Up ability that allows certain characters to become stronger versions of themselves during a match.
Characters carrying the new ability can be placed on top of another card with the same name already on the field after paying the required Level Up cost, effectively upgrading the existing character rather than replacing it with an entirely separate unit.
The expansion will contain 120 standard cards alongside 153 Premium cards, including 28 Full Art Premium designs and Premium versions of every card in the regular set.
Cloud Strife will receive the set’s single Special Card, numbered [31-004L], featuring newly created Final Fantasy VII Rebirth artwork by illustrator Rina Yoshiura.
Tifa Lockhart will meanwhile appear as the expansion’s Noir card through a new version of [11-071L] Tifa, continuing the monochrome Full Art treatment introduced to FFTCG through “Blissful Eternity”.
The Noir format uses a primarily black-and-white design with selective areas of color and an illustrated signature, giving Tifa a very different appearance from the standard and conventional Premium versions of the card.
Three Legacy Cards will also return as Premium Full Art reprints of powerful cards from previous expansions, with Thancred [12-124L], Lightning [24-070L] and Vaan [27-039L] selected for “Symphony of Heroes”.
Legacy Cards retain the same gameplay information as their original releases and can be used in official matches in place of the corresponding standard card, while providing an alternative Full Art version for collectors.
Square Enix has also confirmed new illustrations from artists who have previously contributed artwork to games across the Final Fantasy series, including Mihoko Ishii, Ryoma Ito, M. Ezuka, Rika Okazaki, Gen Kobayashi, Fumio Minagawa, Miki Yamashita and Rina Yoshiura.
The artwork will represent games including Final Fantasy III, IV, V, VI, VII Rebirth, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, XIII, XIV, XV, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Final Fantasy Type-0, War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and the upcoming Final Fantasy Resonance.
“Symphony of Heroes” will also feature the first appearance of Final Fantasy Lost Stranger in the trading card game, bringing Square Enix’s official Final Fantasy manga into FFTCG for the first time.
Final Fantasy Lost Stranger follows Square Enix employee Shogo Sasaki after he and his sister Yuko are transported into an original Final Fantasy world filled with familiar creatures, magic, and locations drawn from throughout the wider RPG series.
The manga began in 2017 and was created by Hazuki Minase and Itsuki Kameya, with its inclusion giving “Symphony of Heroes” another source of characters beyond Square Enix’s mainline games and established spin-offs.
Each “Symphony of Heroes” booster pack will contain 12 cards with at least one Premium card guaranteed, while complete display boxes will contain 18 packs.
Pre-release events are currently expected to begin on March 19, 2027, one week before the full “Final Fantasy Trading Card Game: Symphony of Heroes” booster set launches on March 26, 2027.
