Square Enix has officially announced a major winter collaboration between Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, uniting two of Japan’s biggest RPG franchises for their first joint holiday event in Yokohama.

The “Yokohama Minatomirai Winter Holiday 2026” celebration will transform parts of the city’s waterfront shopping district into a fantasy-themed destination, with original crossover artwork, a collaboration cafe, exclusive merchandise and interactive attractions.

Dragon Quest first launched in 1986 and helped establish the Japanese role-playing game genre, introducing players to a fantasy world filled with monsters, magic and adventures designed by creator Yuji Horii.

Slime Dragon Quest

The franchise celebrated its 40th anniversary in May 2026, with its famous Slimes becoming one of the most recognizable mascots in Japanese gaming.

Final Fantasy followed in 1987 and has since grown into one of Square Enix’s largest international franchises, known for its changing worlds, memorable stories and recurring creatures such as Chocobos and Moogles.

Fat Chocobo

For this crossover, the two series will share a collection of seasonal attractions across Yokohama Landmark Plaza and MARK IS Minatomirai, combining their characters and fantasy settings in a Christmas and New Year celebration.

At Landmark Plaza’s first-floor Sakata Seed Garden Square, visitors will encounter the “Miraculous Holiday Tree Where Legends Meet”, a large seasonal display designed to resemble a magical forest covered in snow beneath a star-filled sky.

MARK IS Minatomirai will host a separate installation called the “Slime and Chocobo Holiday Object”, featuring giant gift boxes inspired by treasure chests and filled with monsters from the two franchises.

One of the main attractions will be the “SlaChoco Kitchen”, a limited-time collaboration cafe at Cafe Fan Base on the fifth floor of Landmark Plaza.
