Shin Godzilla’s Creepily Cute “Kamata-kun” Officially Joins Good Smile’s Nendoroid Lineup
Image by James RichardsonGood Smile Company has officially opened pre-orders for a new Shin Godzilla Nendoroid based on the creature’s bizarre Second Form, better known to fans as “Kamata-kun”.
The new “Nendoroid Godzilla (2016) Second Form” recreates the amphibious form seen shortly after Godzilla first emerges onto land, complete with its vacant eyes, exposed gills, elongated body and barely developed limbs.
Directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, Shin Godzilla reimagined the legendary kaiju as a rapidly evolving organism that repeatedly changes its appearance and abilities as it moves through Tokyo.
Its Second Form first crawls ashore in the Kamata area, earning it the affectionate Kamata-kun nickname that has remained closely associated with this version of the monster ever since.
Despite its wriggling movement, oversized fish-like eyes and the destruction caused as its body forces its way through the city, Kamata-kun has become a fan-favorite, with many viewers finding its awkward appearance unexpectedly cute compared with Shin Godzilla’s more terrifying later forms.
Good Smile first confirmed that Kamata-kun would receive its own Nendoroid during Good Smile Fest 2026 in June, where the company also announced a Gamera figure based on Gamera 2: Attack of Legion and opened pre-orders for its Godzilla Minus One Nendoroid.
The finished figure now reveals considerably more articulation than its unusual body shape might initially suggest, with movement built into the head, neck, forelimbs, hind limbs and long tail.
Its jaw can also be opened to expose the sculpted interior of the mouth, allowing the figure to switch between different expressions without relying on interchangeable face parts.
A dedicated support stand lets Kamata-kun lift its body from the ground to recreate the awkward crawling poses seen during its arrival on land.
Good Smile has also included a fluid effect part that attaches around the gill area, recreating the bodily fluids released by the creature as it moves through the city in the movie.
The non-scale articulated figure measures approximately 16 cm in overall length and can also be displayed alongside the separately sold “Nendoroid Large Godzilla (2016)” for a collection spanning different forms of Shin Godzilla.
Good Smile also brought the movie’s more familiar later Godzilla form to the standard Nendoroid line in 2025, with that release including interchangeable jaw parts, replacement dorsal fins and effect pieces for recreating its destructive radiation heat ray.
Pre-orders for the “Nendoroid Godzilla (2016) Second Form”, priced at ¥7,200 (approximately $46 / £35), are now available through the Good Smile Company Official Shop and reputable hobby goods retailers such as HobbyLink Japan, ahead of shipping in February 2027.
Orders placed through the Good Smile Company Official Shop will also include an exclusive subtitle reproduction sheet inspired by Kamata-kun’s arrival sequence in the movie.
