SEGA confirms location of “SEGA STORE TOKYO” as opening set for this summer

SEGA STORE TOKYO

SEGA has confirmed that they will open their first official dedicated retail store in Japan in the very near future.

This announcement comes after SEGA opened their first ever official “SEGA STORE” in Shanghai, China, earlier this year.

In recent years, their retail presence in Japan has been limited to pop up shops, such as a pop-up shop that took place at Tokyo Station earlier in June.

These pop-up initiatives have previously sold merchandise from popular titles such as the Like a Dragon (formerly Yakuza) series, Sonic the Hedgehog, Puyo Puyo, and Persona series.

SEGA did confirm at Gamescom Asia that they intended to open two new stores, with the first expected to open in summer 2025.

A new promotional video appeared on SEGA’s official X account, which confirms the official name of the new store as “SEGA STORE TOKYO.”

The short clip features the store’s logo emerging against a backdrop reminiscent of Tokyo’s iconic Shibuya Scramble Crossing.

The video provides a strong visual clue, implying a direct connection between the “SEGA STORE TOKYO” and the prominent, high-traffic area.

This ties in to previous statements made by the head of SEGA’s transmedia team, Justin Scarpone, who confirmed in his comments at Gamescom Asia that SEGA would be looking to open one of the two new stores in Shibuya’s PARCO department store building.

The latest teaser all but confirms that the store will be located in Shibuya, and based on earlier comments it can be expected that the opening will be imminent as the window for a “summer opening” is now limited to the next two to three months.

The new SEGA STORE TOKYO will join other established stores such as the CAPCOM store, Nintendo store and Pokémon Center SHIBUYA in the PARCO building, adding another gaming related store for fans to visit.

Further information is expected to be confirmed by SEGA over the coming weeks, so if you’re heading to Tokyo this summer, you may be able to add a visit to the new SEGA STORE TOKYO to your itinerary.
