SEGA announces 10% pay increase for Japanese staff

The entertainment company SEGA has officially announced a major revision to its compensation system in Japan.

In a statement released on November 12, the company said the change is intended to create a stable environment for employees amid recent social changes, including rising prices.

The move is also aimed at attracting and retaining talent to strengthen the company’s global competitiveness.

The new policy will see the company raise the base salary for its existing full-time employees in Japan by an average of approximately 10 percent.

This will be achieved through a base pay increase, the integration of a portion of bonuses directly into the base salary, and a more flexible compensation system based on individual roles.

This revision will also significantly boost the starting pay for new hires.

The monthly starting salary for new university graduates will be raised by 10 percent, increasing from 300,000 yen (approx. $1,950 USD / £1,560 GBP) to 330,000 yen (approx. $2,145 USD / £1,716 GBP).

SEGA stated in the announcement that it believes “human resources” are essential for its goal of creating and providing new value.

The new compensation system is scheduled to take effect on April 1, 2026.

SEGA Corporation (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President, and COO: Utsumi Shuji; hereinafter “SEGA”) will revise the salary standards for full-time employees at its Japanese subsidiary and increase the starting salary for new recruits.

This revision aims to create a safe and secure working environment for employees amid recent social changes, including rising prices, and to recruit and develop attractive talent to strengthen its global competitiveness.

Specifically, starting April 1, 2026, the average base salary for existing full-time employees in Japan will be increased by approximately 10% by increasing base salaries, partially incorporating bonuses, and revising the compensation system to be more flexible according to role.

As a result of this revision, the starting salary for university graduates will increase by 10% from ¥300,000 to ¥330,000.
