Sanrio’s Kuromi gets an adorable new Japanese tableware collection

The long-established Japanese tableware brand Tachikichi has released its first-ever collaboration with the popular Sanrio character, Kuromi.

The new collection of traditional Japanese dishes and accessories is being released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the mischievous, punk-rock-themed character.

Tachikichi is a historic company from Kyoto, a city famous for its traditional crafts, and has been a specialist in Japanese tableware for over 270 years, since its founding in 1752.

This new partnership brings that long legacy of craftsmanship to a collection themed around Kuromi, who is known as My Melody’s rival.

The design of the collection features Kuromi sitting within a “hanakarakusa,” or a traditional floral arabesque pattern, and the ceramic pieces are finished with a chic, purple-colored glaze.

The full six-item collection is as follows:

The ceramic items in the collection, such as the rice bowl, cup, and teapot, are all made as “Hasami ware,” a type of traditional porcelain with a 400-year history from Nagasaki Prefecture.

The teapot also includes a stainless steel tea strainer.

The coaster is made from a combination of ceramic, diatomaceous earth, and cork.

The new collection offers a unique fusion of a modern, popular character with a revered and traditional Japanese craft.
