Sanrio reveals purchase restrictions as their new Chiikawa collab goes on sale

Fans of Chiikawa and Sanrio can now pick up the latest collab merchandise, as sales have officially started.

Sales began on the 13th of June, however there are some purchase restrictions in place both online and in physical stores, as Sanrio looks to avoid stock being wiped out by resellers.

We’ll cover the restrictions in more detail later in the article – first, let’s take a look at all of the merch that will be available for fans to pick up!

Chiikawa, the popular character known for its endearing adventures and charming expressions, has captured hearts across Japan and beyond through social media and merchandise.

Sanrio, the global powerhouse behind iconic characters like Hello Kitty and My Melody, consistently brings joy to millions worldwide.

This collaboration brings together two titans of cuteness in a truly unique and charming collection that fans of both franchises won’t want to miss.

The core concept of this collaboration is incredibly cute, with the paired characters “cosplaying” as each other by donning adorable “fluffy suits”.

This design allows for a fresh take on the popular characters, creating unique and heartwarming visuals.

The character pairings include:

Chiikawa wearing a Hello Kitty suit
Hachiware wearing a Cinnamoroll suit
Usagi wearing a Pompompurin suit
Momonga wearing a Kuromi suit
Kani wearing a My Melody suit

The “Chiikawa x Sanrio Characters” series includes a collection of 21 items, ranging from practical everyday goods to charming secret collectibles:

6. Pochettes (5 types) 2,794 yen each
- Pochettes featuring the cute “Chiikawa” characters wearing Sanrio character headgear. The shoulder strap can be removed and used as a pouch.

7. Mascot holder (5 types) – 2,497 yen each
- Mascot holders of “Chiikawa” wearing Sanrio character costumes.
  Attach them to your bag and take them with you when you go out!
8. Sticker set – 550 yen
- A set of cute large stickers that you can put in your smartphone case and small stickers that are easy to use.

13. Secret Hair Clips (10 types) – 946 yen

To celebrate the launch, customers who purchase ¥3,300 (tax included) or more, including at least one “Chiikawa x Sanrio Characters” product, will receive one limited-quantity mini drawstring pouch (5 types total) on a first-come, first-served and random basis.

The new “Chiikawa x Sanrio Characters” merchandise went on sale on Friday, June 13th, 2025, at Sanrio Shops nationwide, Sanrio corners in department stores, and the Sanrio Online Shop.

To ensure fair access and to avoid scalping situations as seen with the recent Chiikawa McDonald’s Japan collab, purchase restrictions will be in place for some items from June 13th to June 19th.

During this time, in store purchases will be limited to 1 of each item and character, with the secret flocked mascots and secret hair clips limited to 10 of each.

Online sales from the 13th to 19th June will be limited to 2 of each item and character, with the same restrictions regarding the flocked mascots and hair clips applying.

Sanrio has also released the following statement regarding the sales method for online orders of the “Chiikawa x Sanrio” collab:

Regarding the “Chiikawa x Sanrio Characters” product scheduled to be released at 10:00 on Friday, June 13th, we are expecting a large number of orders, so we will be selling it in the following way.

・This item cannot be purchased together with any other products other than “Chiikawa x Sanrio Characters”. It will be shipped separately from other products. Depending on the situation after the release, we plan to change the sales method so that it can be purchased together with other products only if there is remaining stock. Details will be announced on the top page of the site once the start date and time of simultaneous purchase is confirmed.

・Shipping of “Chiikawa x Sanrio Characters” products is expected to be delayed from usual (2 to 4 business days). If you would like your item to arrive as soon as possible, please select “No date specified.”

・Restrictions and sales methods may be changed without prior notice. In that case, you may be temporarily unable to view the product page.

・Gift wrapping is not available for “Chiikawa x Sanrio Characters” products.

・There are no plans to restock this item.
