Sanrio Reveals New and Exclusive Kuromi Shampoo and Hair Treatment Collab Collection

Sanrio’s Kuromi is starring in a new haircare collaboration, with a limited-edition shampoo and treatment set inspired by her mischievous personality.
The “8 THE THALASSO u Shampoo & Hair Treatment Kuromi Design Special Kit” marks her first collaboration with the Japanese beauty brand’s unisex haircare range, whose skincare-inspired formulas focus on moisturizing and repairing damaged hair.

Kuromi made her debut in 2005 as My Melody’s self-proclaimed rival, becoming one of Sanrio’s most popular characters thanks to her black jester hood, pink skull emblem and playful attitude.

Her popularity has continued to grow, with Kuromi finishing fourth in the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking and appearing in an expanding selection of fashion, beauty and lifestyle collaborations.

For this new collaboration, the brand’s signature shampoo and treatment bottles have been redesigned in purple, with special artwork incorporating Kuromi into the large number eight on the packaging.

Smaller illustrations of Kuromi are surrounded by decorative bubbles on each bottle, accompanied by matching purple pumps and a pastel-colored presentation box showing her sitting beside the products.

The kit contains two full-sized haircare products, each supplied in a 475 mL bottle.
The first is a CBD & Refreshing Cleanse serum shampoo, formulated to remove dirt and excess oil from the scalp while helping maintain moisture levels in the hair.

It’s paired with a CBD & Balancing Damage Repair serum hair treatment, which is designed to help address dryness and damage while leaving hair feeling smoother.

Both formulas contain CBD as a moisturizing ingredient, alongside seawater, seaweed extract and other marine-derived components used throughout the 8 THE THALASSO u range.

Kuromi has also appeared in several other recent beauty collaborations, including a limited-edition collection from John Masters Organics that paired her with My Melody across hairbrushes and specially packaged styling oils.

The two Sanrio characters later joined Cosme Kitchen for another partnership spanning cosmetics, skincare and accessories from several Japanese beauty brands under the theme “HUG YOURSELF”.
