Pre-orders re-open for sold out Gunpla kit as the Gundam makes its manga debut
BANDAI SPIRITS has opened a second round of pre-orders after a Gunpla kit sold out before the manga it is based on was even released.
The first round of pre-orders for the much-anticipated “HG 1/144 Gundam Zilius” model kit sold out quicker than anticipated.
With such strong demand for the latest addition to the High Grade (HG) Gunpla lineup, a second round of pre-orders has now been announced.
The Gundam Zilius is the flagship mobile suit from the brand-new “Mobile Suit Gundam Eight” manga series, a completely new series that began its serialization today in the August issue of “Monthly Gundam Ace”.
“Monthly Gundam Ace” is a popular Japanese manga magazine dedicated to the Gundam franchise and this new series has been positioned as a celebration of the magazines 24th anniversary.
The story is penned by novelist Hajime Kamoshida (known for his work on “Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai”) and illustrated by Hideaki Takagi.
The first chapter is a substantial one, featuring over 90 pages and a full color opening.
The story is set in the year 2030 on Earth, a post-apocalyptic setting where only 25 survivors remain and “only one Gundam is left”.
The HG Gundam Zilius model kit is a 1/144 scale representation of the mobile suit, a standard size for the HG line, which is known for its balance of detailed design, articulation, and user-friendly assembly.
The kit faithfully reproduces the mobile suit’s distinctive exterior as seen in the manga.
A unique feature of the model is its ability to transform from its fully armored state to a “lightly armored form” by allowing builders to remove its exterior parts.
The model is also designed to be highly poseable, with a wide range of motion that allows for dynamic and expressive stances.
The HG Gundam Zilius comes equipped with its core set of armaments, including a beam rifle, two beam sabers, and a shield, all of which are staples for the main Gundam in any series.
The packaging for the kit features a full-color illustration by designer Kaneko Tatsuya, adding to its collectible appeal.
The re-opening of pre-orders for the HG Gundam Zilius provides a second opportunity for fans who missed the initial release to secure their copy of this new mobile suit from the latest Gundam manga series.
Reservations for the second wave of pre-orders are now open on the Premium Bandai web store.
The kit will be priced at 2,970 yen (approx. $20.58 USD / £14.99 GBP) and is scheduled to ship to customers in October 2025.
