Pokémon’s New Sandshrew Curry Celebrates Japan’s Iconic Tottori Sand Dunes
Pokémon’s Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew are celebrating their long-running connection with Japan’s Tottori Prefecture with a new food collaboration that features one of the area’s most recognisable and unique takes on a Japanese staple meal.
Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew, known as Sand and Alola Sand in Japan, have served as Tottori Hometown Ambassadors since 2018, helping promote the prefecture’s attractions through the Pokémon Local Acts initiative because Sandshrew’s love of sandy environments makes it a natural fit for the famous Tottori Sand Dunes.
Pokémon Local Acts is a regional partnership program created by The Pokémon Company that pairs selected Pokémon with different prefectures across Japan, encouraging tourism by highlighting both local culture and each Pokémon’s unique characteristics.
Previous Pokémon Local Acts collaborations have involved Slowpoke-themed trains, Pokémon-themed parks, Lapras-themed hotel rooms, and manhole covers featuring Pokémon artwork.
This new collaboration is built around Brilliant Associates’ Pink Curry, a colorful curry made using locally grown red beets from Tottori Prefecture that surprises diners by pairing its vivid pink appearance with the rich flavor of a traditional Japanese curry.
Both packages feature exclusive artwork inspired by the Tottori Sand Dunes at sunset, with Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew happily playing together across the pink-tinted landscape.
The lineup includes “Sand’s Pink Curry” with one serving, priced at ¥840 (approx. $5.75 USD / £4.20 GBP), and “Sand & Alolan Sand Pink Curry” with two servings, priced at ¥1,280 (approx. $8.75 USD / £6.40 GBP).
The collaboration products are available through the Brilliant Associates official online store, select grocery stores/supermarkets, and gift shops across Tottori Prefecture.
The “Sand’s Pink Curry” series began rolling out on July 18, while both products will also be available at the Pokémon Local Acts Product Fair in Tottori, held at Marui Department Store from July 30 through August 11.
