Pokémon’s Kanto starters become traditional Japanese personal seals

Personal seal retailer Hankos has released a new product that combines the world of Pokémon with a traditional Japanese tool.
The “Pokemon PON Journey Partner Set (Kanto Region ver.)” is part of “Pokemon PON”, a popular line of officially licensed “hanko,” which are personal seals or name stamps used in Japan for everything from signing official documents and contracts to accepting package deliveries.

This new set is the first in a planned series that will feature the “starter” Pokémon from the various regions of the Pokémon video game world.
The first release focuses on the Kanto region, the setting of the original Pokémon Red and Blue games.
It includes a set of three hanko, each featuring one of the original three starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.

The product is a self-inking type of stamp, which does not require a separate ink pad and can be used to make continuous impressions.
Each hanko can be fully customized with a person’s name.
Customers can choose from three different fonts, and the name can be rendered in a variety of character sets, including hiragana, katakana, old-style kanji, and the roman alphabet.

Further customization is available for the body of the stamp, which comes in nine different colors, and the ink itself, which is available in four colors.

The three stamps come in a special presentation package that also features artwork of the three Kanto starter Pokémon.

The company has also announced that more “Journey Partner Sets” featuring the starter Pokémon from the Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova regions are planned for future release.
The “Pokemon PON Journey Partner Set (Kanto Region ver.)” is now on sale via Rakuten and is priced at ¥6,800 (approx. $46 USD/£34 GBP).
