Pokémon’s Fossil Museum Exhibition Officially Heads to Denver in 2027 for Its Second US Stop

The Pokémon Fossil Museum is officially heading to Denver, giving US fans another opportunity to explore an exhibition that places life-size Fossil Pokémon alongside real prehistoric specimens.
The travelling “Pokémon Fossil Museum” will open at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science on May 28, 2027, becoming the exhibition’s second North American stop following its current run at Chicago’s Field Museum.

Fossil Pokémon have been part of the series since Pokémon Red and Blue, where players could recover the Helix Fossil or Dome Fossil and revive them into Omanyte or Kabuto, with later generations introducing prehistoric-inspired Pokémon including Aerodactyl, Tyrantrum, Aurorus and Archeops.

The exhibition presents large skeletal interpretations and models of Fossil Pokémon alongside genuine fossils and scientifically produced specimen casts.

One of the confirmed Denver displays will place Tyrantrum alongside a cast of the skull of SUE, the famous Tyrannosaurus rex specimen housed at Chicago’s Field Museum, allowing visitors to compare the Rock/Dragon-type Pokémon with one of its clearest real-world inspirations.

Exhibition signage also explains how fossils are discovered, excavated, prepared, and studied in both the Pokémon world and real paleontology, using the similarities and differences between the two to introduce scientific concepts to visitors.
The US version of the exhibition was jointly created by the Field Museum in Chicago, Japan’s National Museum of Nature and Science, and The Pokémon Company International.

“Pokémon Fossil Museum” originally began touring Japan in 2021 at the Mikasa City Museum in Hokkaido before travelling to museums across the country, eventually attracting more than one million visitors by May 2025.
Its move to the US marked the exhibition’s first international expansion, with the Field Museum opening the North American debut on May 22, 2026.

That Chicago run remains open through April 11, 2027, meaning the exhibition will have just over a month between leaving Illinois and reopening in Colorado.
The Denver announcement also extends what is now becoming a much longer North American tour rather than treating Chicago as a one-off international appearance.

Tickets for the Denver run are not yet on sale, but the Denver Museum of Nature & Science has opened an interest list for visitors who want early access before general ticket sales begin.
Those who register will receive pre-sale access as well as further updates about the exhibition as additional Denver-specific details are announced.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has not yet confirmed how long “Pokémon Fossil Museum” will remain in Colorado, ticket prices, or whether the stop will receive its own exclusive merchandise and promotional items.

“Pokémon Fossil Museum” will open at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science on May 28, 2027, with further ticketing and exhibition details set to be announced closer to launch.
