Pokémon Fully Unveils Its New Real-Life Poké Ball Hotel Experience

Created through a collaboration between Pokémon Sleep and Japanese hospitality company NOT A HOTEL, the “Stay in a Poké Ball” campaign has resulted in a real spherical hotel room built beside a lake in Tomakomai.

The project was first announced earlier in September with only a brief look at the exterior, but the newly revealed interior shows how the three-meter-wide Poké Ball has been turned into a fully usable place to sleep.

A circular bed takes up much of the space inside, joined by air conditioning, lighting and a large curved acrylic window that lets guests look out across the surrounding Hokkaido landscape while lying down.

The mattress itself has been specially made by Japanese sleep brand NELL and contains 2,350 pocket coils, giving the compact room a setup designed around actual comfort rather than simply recreating the shape of a Poké Ball.

NELL has also been involved in another Pokémon 30th anniversary project this month, releasing a Magnemite-themed bedding and loungewear collection built around a play on the Pokémon’s Japanese name, Coil, and the pocket coils used inside the company’s mattresses.

Even the washing area next to the hotel has been given a Pokémon touch, with tiles using colors inspired by Snorlax.
One of the more interesting features inside the room comes from NOT A HOTEL’s smart-home team, which has created a system that lets guests choose a favorite Pokémon using a tablet.

When the lights are turned off, the room changes to a lighting display themed around the selected Pokémon, extending the idea of falling asleep alongside a favorite character from the Pokémon Sleep app into the physical space.

The hotel was created to celebrate both Pokémon’s 30th anniversary and the third anniversary of Pokémon Sleep, with “sleeping” becoming one of the main themes used across several of the franchise’s latest anniversary projects.

Pokémon Center also expanded its Pokémon Sleep merchandise in late August with new “Goodnight” plushies based on the sleeping poses of Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and Mew from the game.

The new hotel takes that sleep-focused theme much further, turning one of the most recognizable objects from the series into an actual room rather than simply decorating a conventional hotel space with Pokémon artwork.

Only 10 groups, totaling 20 people, will get the chance to stay inside the Poké Ball through the new campaign.

Each winner will receive a free one-night, two-day stay for themselves and one guest, including dinner on the first evening, breakfast the following morning and selected drinks.

Travel to Hokkaido is not included, with New Chitose Airport listed as the nearest airport and transportation costs left to the winners.

The stays are currently planned to take place between October 8 and October 18, 2026, with successful applicants able to select their preferred date from the available schedule.

Anyone entering must have Pokémon Sleep installed and a public X account, then follow the official Pokémon Sleep account and make a post containing both “@PokemonSleepApp” and “#泊まれるモンスターボール” before completing the questionnaire sent through an automatic reply.

Everyone who completes the required campaign steps will also receive a serial code containing one Poké Biscuit and one Energy Pillow for use inside Pokémon Sleep.

Applications are open from September 15 through September 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM JST.

The Poké Ball hotel will not be opened to the general public, with access limited to campaign winners, their guests and people connected to the project.
