Pokémon Finally Completes the Pokédex for Its Latest 30th Anniversary Release

The Pokémon Company has released a brand-new official Pokédex book covering every Pokémon introduced between 1996 and March 2026, while also announcing a major 30th anniversary art book that will celebrate three decades of the video game series later this year.

Pokémon first debuted in 1996 with Pokémon Red and Green on the Game Boy before growing into one of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises, spanning video games, animation, trading cards, films and merchandise enjoyed by millions of fans across the globe.

The newly released “Pokémon Official National Pokédex 1996–2026” brings together all 1,025 Pokémon discovered throughout the series, making it the most up-to-date official reference book currently available.

Instead of just listing each Pokémon individually, the book has been organized to clearly show evolutionary families while also including both National Pokédex numbering and a phonetic index, making it easy to quickly locate any species.

Each Pokémon receives a large illustration alongside key information based on game data available as of the end of March 2026, including its type, category, height, weight, abilities, Hidden Ability and official Pokédex description.

Another particularly useful addition is the inclusion of every Pokémon’s official English name, making the book a practical reference for Japanese fans communicating with Pokémon players and collectors from around the world.

The guide also expands beyond the Pokédex itself with explanatory sections covering many of the franchise’s defining gameplay mechanics, including Mega Evolution, Dynamax, Regional Forms and other concepts that have shaped Pokémon over the past three decades.

Alongside the release of the complete Pokédex, The Pokémon Company has also announced Pokémon Visual Art Book: 30th Anniversary Art Book of Pokémon Video Games Developed by GAME FREAK, a 3-book series giving fans an extensive look behind the scenes of the series’ artistic history.

The anniversary art books will feature pixel artwork, 3D models, illustrations, promotional artwork, and development materials spanning every mainline Pokémon title developed by GAME FREAK, from the original Pokémon Red and Green through to the Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC.

Each volume will also conclude with an exclusive long-form interview featuring GAME FREAK creators, offering additional insight into the development of one of gaming’s most influential franchises.

The Pokémon Official National Pokédex 1996–2026, priced at ¥3,300 (approx. $21 USD / £16 GBP), is available now through Japanese booksellers and online retailers following its August 7 release.

Each volume of the Pokémon Visual Art Book: 30th Anniversary Art Book of Pokémon Video Games Developed by GAME FREAK will be priced at ¥6,600 (approx. $42 USD / £31 GBP), with their release currently scheduled for December 18, 2026.
