Pokémon Center Fukuoka moves to larger location due to increase in tourism

The Pokémon Company have announced the location of a new Pokémon Center in Fukuoka.
Pokémon Center Fukuoka will open in the Hakata Marui department store during summer 2025.
This will mark the second Pokémon Center to be established within a Marui department store, following the existing Pokémon Center Yokohama.

Pokémon Centers are official retail outlets dedicated to the Pokémon franchise, offering a wide array of products beyond video games and trading cards.
These stores serve as hubs for fans, providing a diverse selection of original Pokémon merchandise, including plush toys, stationery, apparel, and collectibles
Additionally, Pokémon Centers often host various special events and promotional campaigns.

There are 22 Pokémon Center stores in Japan with two permanent overseas stores now open in Taipei and Singapore.
The existing Pokémon Center Fukuoka store in the Hakata AMU Plaza building will close on May 12th to allow preparations for the new store to be completed.
The new Pokémon Center Fukuoka store is planned to feature a larger retail area than the current store, which will be designed to accommodate a greater number of customers and improve the overall shopping experience in comparison to the old location.
Tourist numbers in Kyushu have increased significantly recently, with figures for early 2025 showing increases of 120% when compared to the same periods in 2024.
With tourists often looking to stock up on Pokémon themed goods during their stay in Japan, many cities have more than one Pokémon Center to accommodate demand, however it’s hoped that the new Fukuoka store’s expansion will solve any issues with overcrowding and remove the need for an additional store in the city.
Preparations for its grand opening are currently underway, with the anticipated launch scheduled for the summer of 2025.

While a precise opening date has not yet been specified, further details regarding the store’s location within Hakata Marui, its specific product offerings, and any special opening events are expected to be announced at a later date.
Hakata Marui has cautioned that the reopening timeline is subject to potential changes without prior notification.
A new logo for Pokémon Center Fukuoka has also been unveiled.

The logo features Pikachu, accompanied by the legendary Pokémon Latias and Latios, two Dragon/Psychic-type Pokémon known for their association with the Hoenn region, which served as the setting for the “Pokémon Ruby” and “Pokémon Sapphire” video games released in 2002.
The Hoenn region was inspired by the Japanese region of Kyushu, in which Fukuoka is the largest city.
The new logo updates the previous Pokémon Center Fukuoka logo, which featured Pikachu alongside two other Pokémon, usually Torchic and a grass or water type Pokémon, since 2003.

We’ll bring you the latest updates regarding the new Pokémon Center Fukuoka as soon as they’re announced!
