Pokémon Announces Re-Release for Sold Out Life-Size 30th Anniversary Pikachu Plush

Japanese toy manufacturer Takara Tomy is offering fans of the Pokémon franchise yet another chance to secure a highly sought-after nostalgic plush toy.

The “Welcome Back! Pikachu 1/1 Plush” is returning for another round of sales after its initial release earlier this year.

This re-release continues the celebration of the monumental 30th anniversary of the legendary video game series.

Pokémon originally launched in Japan in 1996 with the release of Pocket Monsters Red and Green.

Over the last three decades, the property has evolved into the highest-grossing media franchise in the world.

The series continues to dominate pop culture through video games, trading cards, and anime series.

The “Welcome Back! Pikachu 1/1 Plush” is a faithful reproduction that accurately recreates a classic plush that was originally sold in 1997, shortly after the series began its global explosion in popularity.

To honor these humble beginnings, the stuffed animal features the rounder, stouter aesthetic of the late 1990s.

Fans often affectionately refer to this specific vintage design as “Chonky Pikachu.”

Standing at approximately 40 centimeters tall, the toy strictly adheres to the official Pokedex height of the famous Electric-type mouse.

This offers fans a true life-size experience that sharply contrasts with the slimmer modern iterations seen in recent media.

The nostalgic recreation is priced at 7,480 yen (approx. £39 GBP / $49 USD).

Previous sales periods placed the plush behind a special lottery system with only a select number of winners able to place an order.
