The life-size RX-78F00/E Gundam statue displayed during Osaka’s 2025 World Expo may soon have a new permanent home.

Recent reports indicate that the towering mechanical display could be relocated as part of a widespread sustainability initiative following the conclusion of the event back in October 2025.

This announcement couldn’t come at a better time, as Japan is set to lose one of its most iconic life-size Gundam statues when Tokyo’s Unicorn Gundam retires this August.

Organizers from the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition have been actively accepting applications from local governments looking to safely reuse resources from the six-month global exhibition.

This large-scale recycling effort aims to repurpose buildings, artworks, and equipment from the Yumeshima Island site across various regions in Japan to minimize waste.

One of the largest ongoing operations involves dismantling the iconic Grand Ring structure and distributing its lumber for public reconstruction projects across more than twenty different prefectures.

Mecha fans are heavily focused on a separate proposal submitted by the municipal government of Izumisano City within Osaka Prefecture.

Local officials are currently seeking to officially acquire the colossal statue that stood beside the GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION.

Plans outline a potential relocation of the giant figure to a designated spot near a major local railway station.

City representatives hope that establishing such a recognizable pop culture monument will help attract domestic and international tourists to the surrounding commercial areas.

This towering 1:1 scale iteration of the RX-78F00/E has an incredibly unique background, as engineers originally built the life-size core structure to serve as the famous moving centerpiece for the Gundam Factory Yokohama attraction.

Following the closure of that facility, the engineering team carefully rebuilt and modified the machine for its static display appearance at the Osaka exhibition.

Nothing has been officially confirmed regarding the final destination of the robot at this current stage of the sustainability project.

Rumors regarding the possibility of the statue becoming a permanent landmark have already generated significant attention from eager fans online, with many indicating their hope that the impressive 18-meter-tall attraction will soon return as a must-visit destination for both local and international fans.

Final decisions regarding the approved relocation projects and the ultimate fate of the RX-78F00/E are expected to be announced by the association over the coming months.
