Orders Open for New Transformers: The Movie 40th Anniversary Optimus Prime Figure
threezero is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Transformers: The Movie with a new MDLX action figure that faithfully recreates Optimus Prime’s appearance from the landmark 1986 animated film.
Transformers: The Movie debuted in 1986 as a continuation of the original Generation 1 animated series, taking the story into the far-off year of 2005 where the Autobots faced the Decepticons, the rise of Rodimus Prime and the arrival of the planet-devouring Unicron in one of the franchise’s most memorable adventures.
Standing approximately 17.8 cm tall, the new MDLX Optimus Prime (1986 Movie Edition) builds upon the animated version released by threezero in 2024 while introducing a newly sculpted head based on the character’s appearance in the film.
The figure features an internal frame constructed from die-cast zinc alloy and engineering-grade plastics, while threezero Art Director Kelvin Sau’s distinctive mechanical styling adds extra depth and detail without losing the clean look of the original animation design.
Its paintwork has been updated to match the vibrant colors seen in the movie, including a newly repainted red backpack that more closely reflects Optimus Prime’s on-screen appearance.
With 48 points of articulation, the figure has been designed for a wide range of dynamic poses inspired by scenes from the film.
Accessories include five pairs of interchangeable hands, Optimus Prime’s Energy Axe, his Blaster Rifle and the Matrix of Leadership, allowing collectors to recreate many of the character’s most iconic moments.
The figure can also be displayed alongside the previously announced MDLX Bumblebee and MDLX Megatron to recreate memorable battles from Transformers: The Movie.
Each figure also includes an exclusive character card illustrated by acclaimed animation artist Nobuyoshi Habara as a bonus collectible.
“MDLX Optimus Prime (1986 Movie Edition)” is priced at $99.90 USD and is available to pre-order through the official threezero online store and select other reputable collectible retailers.
The figure is currently scheduled for release during the fourth quarter of 2026.
