Official Gundam fan vote update reveals one of the series’ worst mechs is shockingly tied for top spot

An official update from the “Worldwide Gundam General Election 2025” has shocked the Gundam fanbase.
It has been revealed that two mobile suits are currently in a surprisingly close race: the Nether Gundam and the Gundam GP01 Full Burnern.

This unexpected pairing has caused both surprise and laughter among fans.

The “Worldwide Gundam General Election 2025” is a global, 10-language poll launched to celebrate the opening of the new “GUNDAM Official Website.”

Fans can vote for their favorite Gundam-type mobile suit from the Universal Century and other timelines such as After Colony, Cosmic Era and Future Century, with the winner set to receive a new, specially commissioned illustration.

The reason for the shock lies in the vast difference between the two mobile suits.
The Nether Gundam (re-named the Hurricane Gundam in the English dub) is one of the most infamous “joke” mechs from Mobile Fighter G Gundam.

The series is known for its wild, national-themed designs, with the Netherland’s Gundam having the appearance of a windmill.

In the anime’s Gundam Fight tournament, it avoided combat for 11 months by disguising itself as a regular windmill, only to be effortlessly defeated when it finally had to fight in the tournament’s Finals.

In stark contrast, the Gundam GP01 Full Burnern is a main protagonist suit from the celebrated OVA series Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory.

It is the upgraded, space-use version of the GP01, and it famously engaged in an epic, dramatic rivalry with the stolen Gundam GP02.

The idea that a “cowardly” gag mech is in a popularity contest with a celebrated hero suit has delighted fans online.
Social media comments included:
- “How in the world are you two tied in popularity?”
- “This is too funny”
- “Who could have ever predicted this situation?”

Some fans are now cheering for the underdog, with one user writing:
“I’m rooting for Nether Gundam. If it wins, it might finally get an HG model kit!”

The “Worldwide Gundam General Election 2025” is open for voting until December 25, 2025.

Fans can vote once per day on the official website, and the final results are scheduled to be announced in the spring of 2026.
