Official Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary commemorative coin sets announced by Japan Mint

The Japan Mint, the independent administrative agency of the Japanese government responsible for producing and circulating coins, has announced new Dragon Ball commemorative products.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic manga series Dragon Ball, two special, limited-edition coin sets will be released.

The first is the “Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Coin Set.”

This product is a collection that includes one of each of the six standard, uncirculated Japanese coins for the year Reiwa 7 (2025), from the 1 yen to the 500 yen coin.
The set also includes a special, brass-alloy year plate, which is a medal featuring an engraving of the series’ protagonist, Son Goku, on the front, and the Four-Star Dragon Ball on the back.

The second, more premium release is the “Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary 2025 Proof Coin Set.”
This set features the six standard coins, but in a special “proof” finish.

Proof coinage is created using special techniques to give the coin’s surface a brilliant, mirror-like shine and to make the engraved patterns stand out clearly.
This deluxe set also includes a special silver medal that has been treated with a rainbow-coloring process, which makes different parts of the design appear to change color when viewed from different angles.

All of these items are housed in a special leather case.
The “Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Coin Set” is priced at ¥3,100 (approx. $21 USD/£16 GBP), and is limited to 60,000 sets.
The “Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary 2025 Proof Coin Set” is priced at ¥16,500 (approx. $112 USD/£83 GBP).
Applications to purchase both of the coin sets will be accepted through the Japan Mint online shop and via mail-in postcard.
The application period is scheduled to begin on Friday, the 5th of September, and will run until the 25th of September, 2025.
